Eligibility Criteria
Online applications are invited from the eligible candidates in the following categories:
- Category-I: Candidates with scholarships/fellowships (UGC-JRF/ UGC-CSIR /ICMR/ ICAR/GATE/DBT/ DST-INSPIRE or any other Fellowship/Scholarship (as applicable).
- Category-II: Non-fellowship candidates who have qualified NET (UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, etc., or similar National level tests, as applicable). Candidates who have qualified for ‘NET for Admission to Ph.D.’ can also apply.
- Category-III: Foreign Students & Working Professionals and/or In-service Candidates as under:
- Foreign Students through ICCR.
- Corporate Sector, Civil Servants, and FIP/ FDP Faculty
- Employees of the Central University of Kashmir.
- Teachers of Schools/Higher Educational Institutions/Research Institutions
Educational Qualification
Master’s Degree in relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks (50% in case of SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) EWS, and PwD candidates).

Selection Process
- The final selection shall be made based on a composite score of NET (UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, etc., as applicable), & Personal Interview marks in the ratio of 70:30.
- A minimum of 50% seats shall be reserved for candidates having a master’s degree in domain-specific subjects offered by the respective departments.
- Allied disciplines are considered to encourage research in Interdisciplinary/ Multidisciplinary fields, with a maximum of 50% reservation of seats from the available vacancies in each programme & to be decided by the respective Departmental Research Committees (DRC) based on their thrust area of research.
- The available vacancies in each Department shall be first filled with or offered to candidate/s who have qualified for ‘Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)’ in the concerned subject. If the number of vacancies is less than the number of applications received by the department/s, the selection shall be based on the merit score of the candidate/s during the interaction/presentation/interview.
- If the seats remain vacant, the candidates who have qualified ‘UGC-NET for appointment as Assistant Professor’ in the relevant subject shall be given a second preference, after JRF candidates. If some seats remain vacant, the resulting vacancies shall be offered to candidates who have qualified ‘NET for admission to Ph.D. programme’ & previously ‘UGC-NET candidates for appointment as Assistant Professor’, subject to the availability of seats and the exclusive discretion of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC).
- The selection shall be based on the combined merit of NET marks & marks scored by the candidate in the presentation/interview in the ratio of 70:30. The score obtained by the candidate in the NET examination shall be valid for a period of one year for Ph.D. admissions. One year will be calculated from the date of issuance of the NET certificate by the concerned agency. (Refer to notification No. F.4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024(NET)/140648, dated March 27, 2024, issued by UGC).
- For admission to the Ph.D. programme in the Department of Civil Engineering and Information Technology, candidates holding an M.E./M.Tech. degree (or equivalent as applicable) but without a valid GATE qualification, are also encouraged to apply. However, all such candidates, if selected, shall be granted provisional admission only and will be required to publish at least one (01) research paper in a peer-reviewed journal indexed in Q1 or Q2 (as per the SCImago Journal Rank / Web of Science / Scopus quartile classification).
