Assam University Silchar PhD Admission 2026-27

Assam University, Silchar invites application for PhD admission in Silchar H.Q. and Diphu Campus for session 2026-27.

Eligibility Criteria

• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree in the same and allied subjects by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
• Or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in the respective country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time.
• Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme in the same or allied subject according to UGC regulations (Minimum Standard and procedure for award of M.Phil/PhD degrees, 2016 and subsequent amendments) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.
• Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to the M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established, recognized or incorporated by law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country empowered for assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

Application Process

• Candidates have to apply online through official website https://ausexamination.ac.in/admission/
• Interested candidates may apply up to a maximum of two courses. However, separate applications should be submitted for each course with requisite application fees.

• Opening of admission portal: 29 August, 2026
• Last date of submission of online application: 13 September, 2026
• Verification cum sending of admit cards: 14 September, 2026
• Entrance test and viva voce of all shortlisted candidates (as applicable): 21 September, 2026
• Entry of composite score by the department latest by: 22 September, 2026
• Publication of first merit list: 24 September, 2026
• Date of admission: 24 September, 2026 to 27 September, 2026
• Publication of 2nd merit list if any: 1 October, 2026
• Admission of candidates from 2nd list (if any): 1 October, 2026 to 3 October, 2026
• Date of commencement of classes for course work: 1 October, 2026
