Eligibility Criteria

Candidates satisfying the following clauses shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme:

(I) Qualification

  • 55% marks in aggregate, or its equivalent grade “B” in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed, excluding grace/statutory marks, if any, in Master’s Degree in the concerned subject/allied subject from a recognized university or in any recognized Professional Degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the Equivalence Committee of the University or an equivalent Degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority having this mandate or by an Equivalence Committee of the University; Or
  • Candidates who have completed a 1 (one)-year/2-semester Master’s Degree programme after a 4-year/8-Semester Bachelor’s Degree programme or a 4-year/8-Semesters Degree with a minimum of 75 percent marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed with the concerned subject as Major or a 2-year/4-Semester Master’s Degree programme after a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory/regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed; Or
  • Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority established or incorporated in India for the said purpose. Or
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit, or assure the quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

(II) A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or equivalent relaxation of grade shall be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/RBA/EWS (Non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as provided under University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for the award of M. Phil/Ph. D Degrees) Regulation-2022.

(III) Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF or ICMR-JRF or ICAR-NET/JRF or SET/SLET/GATE/CEED/GPAT or any other equivalent test declared so by the UGC or have been awarded M. Phil.

Admission Procedure

Admissions shall be made according to the following priority:

(i) Candidates who have “qualified NET for the award of JRF and Appointment as Assistant Professor and Admission to Ph.D.” shall be selected at the 1st instance/priority against available vacancies. However, where the number of vacancies is less than the number of JRF candidates, the selection shall be made through an interaction with the DRC based on the following criteria:

  • Subject knowledge Weightage: 70
  • Research aptitude Weightage: 30
  • Total: 100

(ii) If seats remain vacant after the selection based on sub-clause (i), the 2nd priority shall be given to candidates who have “qualified NET for Appointment as Assistant Professor and Admission to Ph.D.”, and the admission shall be based on the following criteria:

  • NET (Qualified) Score* on a pro-rata basis Weightage: 70
  • Interaction with DRC to ascertain Subject knowledge and Research aptitude Weightage: 30
  • Total: 100

*The marks obtained in the NET by a candidate will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D. (Note: One year will be from the date of issuance of the NET Certificate from the concerned agency).

(iii) If seats remain vacant after the selection made based on sub-clause (ii), the 3rd priority shall be given to candidates who have “qualified NET for admission to Ph.D/GATE/SET/SLET/previously qualified NET candidates for Appointment as Assistant Professor and Admission to Ph.D.”, and the selection shall be made as per the criteria laid down in sub-clause (i).

*The marks obtained in the NET by a candidate will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D. (Note: One year will be from the date of issuance of the NET Certificate from the concerned agency).

The DRC shall fill up the available vacancies priority-wise as mentioned in sub-clauses (i), (ii), (iii), & (iv). The presence of the Observer-cum-RPAC nominee in DRC shall be mandatory while provisionally selecting candidates for the Ph.D. programme; however, marks for the interaction shall be awarded by the DRC members only.

(iv) The tie in the marks secured by the candidates in the merit list and interaction shall be resolved based on the percentage of marks secured by them in their Master’s or Equivalent Degree.

(v) The list of qualified candidates along with the waiting list will be prepared by the DRC with the main list to be signed by the DRC members including the DRC-cum-RPAC nominee and will then be forwarded by its Chairperson to the Dean of the School who, after satisfying himself/herself about the fairness of the selection, will recommend it for the approval of the Vice-Chancellor through the Dean Research.

(vi) The list of qualified candidates/waiting list will be notified by the Dean of the School concerned and will be made available on the website of the University as well as the departmental website.

(vii) The provisionally selected candidates shall be required to get all their credentials verified in the concerned Department/Centre/Institute to join the programme within the stipulated time.

The mere mention of a candidate’s name in the list of provisionally selected candidates/waiting list shall not entitle a candidate to final selection if he/she is found otherwise ineligible or if there is no vacancy available in the Department/Centre/Institute or non-availability of a supervisor to guide a candidate.

Note: The NET appeared score of the year (2025) shall be considered towards assessment for the selection.
