Eligibility Criteria
- Admission to the Ph.D. Program of the University of Delhi is governed by the Ordinance VI of the University, its Amendments, and other notifications issued by UoD from time to time in this regard.
- Admission to all Ph.D. Programs are done on the basis of the eligibility criteria and procedures specified by the University on its website, Ph.D. Bulletin of Information – 2025 (Ph.D. BOI-2025). Before initiating the registration process, the candidates must read the contents of Ph.D. BOI 2025 and consult the University of Delhi Act, 1922, its amendments and the Statutes. The Ordinances, Rules, Regulations, and Notifications of the UoD available on the University website, www.du.ac.in shall be final and binding.
- For admission to Ph.D. program for the academic session 2025-26, the scores of NET Examination conducted in December 2024 and June 2025 will be considered.
- Interview is mandatory for all Candidates. Interview will be done only in physical mode at the respective department. The candidate is advised to make necessary arrangement for travel well in advance. No TA/DA/Accommodation will be given for attending the Interview.
- Candidates must read the Bulletin of Information to ascertain their eligibility criteria, major area of research, and mandatory requirements of the Research proposal at the time of registration. The information related to Areas of research, Allied Subjects, Seat Matrix, requirements of the Research Proposal, and Process for interviews has been provided by the Departments. This Bulletin of Information is a compilation of the information received from the respective Departments. For details, candidates must visit the website of the respective department.
- Departments/Centres reserve the right not to fill up the vacant seats of the Ph.D. Programs in case of non-availability of suitable candidates. For the list of Allied Subjects and declaration of Admission Lists, candidates must visit the website of the respective Department regularly.
- At the time of admission, the candidate will be required to appear in person at the respective department for verification of the original documents. The Departments/Centres will verify the certificates/ documents submitted by the candidates before granting admission.
- Determination of eligibility and verification of documents for admission to UoD will be the sole purview of UoD.
- Candidates are advised to check their admission website (www.admission.uod.ac.in) of the University and the website of the respective department for all communications and updates related to admissions. UoD will not be responsible for a candidate’s lack of awareness of the admission guidelines, schedule, eligibility criteria, and Ph.D. admission rules. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to keep checking the dashboard, email, and admission websites of UoD regularly. Grievances resulting from a lack of reading/consulting this Bulletin and information published/uploaded on the website of the University and/or Departments from time to time will not be entertained.
- Grievances related to Ph.D. admissions will be dealt with by the DRC/BRS of the respective Departments/ Faculty.
- Seats mentioned in the notification may vary.
Eligibility
- Candidates who have completed A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Application Process
- All candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. Program are required to register online.
- Any first-time user needs to register on the portal. With a valid e-mail ID, the candidate can easily Register and generate login details by clicking on the ―New User Registration‖ button. Candidates who do not have a valid e-mail ID must create an e-mail ID before proceeding.
- In the ‘Login details’, every Candidate will furnish personal details (as given in Candidate’s certificates), e-mail ID, and mobile number (10 digit number without any prefix), which will be used for future correspondence, and will create a password (of a maximum of six characters).
- Please ascertain that all the details given in the form are complete and correct, because the same will be used throughout the admission procedure.
- On successful submission of the required details, a confirmation link will be generated on the given e-mail ID, and the Candidate would confirm his/her Registration by clicking the link.
- Candidates need to keep both USERNAME (e-mail ID) and PASSWORD handy because they will be required to access the account on the portal as well as for all future correspondence throughout the admission process.
- Candidates need to re-login to the portal using ‘USERNAME’, ‘PASSWORD’, or ‘MOBILE NUMBER’ and ‘OTP’ and complete the Application Form.
- After completing the Profile, the candidate must choose Ph.D. and the department in which s/he wishes to apply.
- Candidates must fulfill all the requirements needed to be considered for admission to a department. Check the mandatory requirement of the submission of a Ph.D. proposal.
- Application submission for a program shall be completed only after payment of the online registration fee for that particular program.
- Candidates desirous of applying to more than one Ph.D. Program must apply separately for each program. It may be noted that the same Login details shall be used for all applications to multiple programs.
- Candidates shall be required to pay separate registration fees for applying to each Program.
- The Registration Fee can be paid through any one of the available online payment options: Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, and UPI.
- The application will be considered complete only after the realization of the online payment.
Selection Process
There will be three Categories for admission to PhD:
Block А
- Category-1: Award of JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor
Block B
- Category-2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.
- Category-3: Admission to Ph.D. only
For candidates in Block B, the validity of UGC/CSIR NET scores will be valid for one year. Therefore, for admission to Ph.D. program for the academic session 2025-26, the scores of NET Examination conducted in December 2024 and June 2025 will be considered.
Seat distribution:
- As per the rules of the University as amended from time to time, the Departments must declare the availability of seats in advance on an annual basis.
- 60% seats of the total available seats will be sanctioned for Phase I.
- 40% seats of the total available seats will be sanctioned for Phase II.
- If seats remain vacant in Phase I, these will also be filled in Phase II.
Merit list:
- For the purpose of drawing the Merit List, 70% weightage must be given to the scores obtained in the Nationalized Test and 30% weightage must be given to Interviews.
- The above will be applicable for all candidates i.e. candidates from Block A (Category-1) and Block B (Category-2) and (Category-3).
- In each Phase, seats will first be filled from candidates of Block A. If seats remain vacant, candidates from Block B may be considered as per merit.

Application Fee
- SC/ ST/ PwBD: Rs. 300.00 (Rupees Three Hundred Only) per program
- UR/ EWS/ OBC-NCL: Rs. 750.00 (Rupees Seven Hundred Fifty Hundred Only) per program
