Sambalpur University PhD Admission 2025 (3rd Round)

Applications in prescribed forms are invited online for admission into Ph.D. Programme- 2025 of Sambalpur University from students belonging to SC/ST/UR categories against vacant seat(s).

Eligibility Criteria

• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s Degreein the concerned/ allied subject as mentioned in Table -1 from Sambalpur University or any other University/ Institute recognized by Sambalpur University or such degree obtained from a UGC recognized University/ Institution and foreign Universities recognized by Sambalpur University/ AIU/ UGC/ AICTE etc. may be considered equivalent for this purpose by Sambalpur University with at least 55% marks (or equivalent), shall be eligible for admission into the Ph.D. Programme. The respective Nodal Centre should decide on the allied subject.
• However, candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Differently-Abled categories and those who obtained their Master’s Degree before 19th September 1991 shall be given a relaxation of 5% marks at the Master’s Degree level.
• In-service candidates will have to submit a No Objection Certificate from their employers, failing which their application will be rejected. A copy of the same will be submitted at the time of Registration. Candidates who are admitted into the Ph.D. Programme as unemployed candidates and applying for Registration as in-service candidates will have to submit a No Objection Certificate from their employers at the time of registration.

Selection Process

• The final merit list of the successful candidates shall be prepared by the Nodal Centre by assigning weightage of 70 marks to the candidate’s past academic career and 30 marks to the performance in the Viva-Voce.
• The assessment of the candidate in the Viva-Voce shall be primarily based on the candidate’s subject knowledge, research interest and communication skill.
• A candidate has to secure at least 15 marks out of 30 (i.e., 50%) to qualify the viva-voce examination.

Research Eligibility Test of Sambalpur University (RETSU)

• Candidates not exempted will have to appear on The Research Eligibility Test of Sambalpur University (RETSU). The Research Eligibility Test of Sambalpur University (RETSU) will be held in the University Campus at JyotiVihar.
• A candidate shall have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in Eligibility Test (relaxation of 5 % of marks for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (NonCreamy layers)/Differently-abled category) in order to be eligible for the Viva-Voce Test at the Nodal Centre for the subject concerned. The list of candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in the RETSU will be displayed in the University website.
• The test will comprise multiple choice questions and shall be of 02 hours in duration.

Exemption from Entrance Test

• Candidates, who have qualified in UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR-NET / GATE / CEED and similar national level tests conducted by UGC, ICAR, ICMR, CSIR, ICSSR and other such National Bodies and candidates who are eligible to get a fellowship from national level organizations/ institutions.

• After submitting the form successfully, take a print out of the Form, staple attested copies of your photographs along with all relevant documents send it to The Chairman P.G. Council, Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla- 768019, Dist.Sambalpur, Odisha. The envolope must be superscribed as “Application for Ph.D. Admission into Course Subject and Index No._____”. The other copy of the Form should be with the Student.
• Admit card for Entrance/Viva must be downloaded from user login.
