Pondicherry University PhD Admission 2025 (Jan)

Pondicherry University (Central University) invites application for PhD Admission January 2025 Session through CSIR-UGC NET 2024 / UGC-NET 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have qualified JRF in CSIR-UGC NET 2024 / UGC NET 2024 (July / Dec. 2024) as per the UGC (Minimum standards and procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2022 are eligible for Ph.D. admission. They may be admitted at the beginning of the monsoon and winter semesters based on the recommendation of the Ph.D. Admission Committee, following an interview as per the 2022 UGC regulations.
• Candidates who qualified in Category 2 (eligible for Assistant Professor appointment and Ph.D. admission) and Category 3 (eligible for Ph.D. admission only) based on CSIR-UGC NET 2024 / UGC-NET 2024 (July / Dec. 2024) are also eligible. For these categories, 70% weightage will be given to the NET test scores, and 30% weightage will be given to the interview for Ph.D. admission. The Ph.D. admission will be based on the combined merit of NET marks and interview performance. The NET scores for Category 2 and 3 are valid for one year for Ph.D. admission.
• Candidates selected for the award of Junior Research Fellowship under the schemes of National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes (NFOBC), National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste students (NFSC), and Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students (MANF) as per UGC Notification F.No.82-44/2020 (SA_III) dated 17.12.2020 will be treated on par with those who qualified in UGC-CSIR-NET with JRF and those qualified for UGC-NET / CSIR-NET Ph.D. Admission only. These candidates can be admitted at the beginning of the monsoon and winter semesters upon the recommendation of the Ph.D. Admission Committee.

Educational Qualification (Ph.D. Full-time)

• Candidates with a 10+2+3+2 (or 10+2+5) education pattern and a Master’s Degree in the concerned or an allied subject, meeting the regulations prescribed by the respective Schools/Departments/Centres of Pondicherry University (or an equivalent degree recognized by the University), must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• Candidates with a 10+2 education pattern and a Master’s degree in Law, Engineering and Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary Science, or an MD/MS degree in Medicine/Dentistry/Paramedical from this University or any other recognized University, through regular full-time study, must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• Candidates with a 10+2 education pattern and a three-year Master of Science degree from the School/Faculty of Medicine of this University or any other recognized university must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• Candidates of Indian origin or overseas students with a Master’s degree from an accredited overseas university, securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade), are eligible.
• A relaxation of 5% in marks (from 55% to 50%) or an equivalent grade relaxation is allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled categories.

Selection Process

The JRF qualified candidates shall be considered for admission based on the personal interview, as per the UGC (Minimum standards and procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2022.

For the candidates who have qualified in Category 2 (i.e. qualified for Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.) and Category 3 (i.e. qualified for admission to Ph.D. only) based on CSIRUGC NET 2024 / UGC-NET 2024, 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage for interview. The admissions will be based on the combined merit of NET marks and the interview marks.

Based on the presentation and interview conducted by the concerned Departments / Centres.

Instructions

• Candidates would be required to give a seminar before the Admission Committee on their proposed topic of research in the concerned School/Department/Centre. The Admission Committee/University may also adopt any other method of evaluation of the candidate, which will also form the basis for considering provisional admission. The Admission Committee/University should be convinced of the candidate’s potential to carry out research.
• All Ph.D. applicants called for an interview should submit, at the time of the interview, a clear written proposal of the research to be conducted, providing sufficient background material and the proposed line of research, and obtain the consent of a research supervisor duly recognized by the University within the University area.
• Mere possession of the required educational and other qualifications and being called for an interview alone cannot be claimed as a right for admission to the Ph.D. programme in the University.

• Read instructions carefully before filling application form.
• Apply separately for each programme.
• Fill in all columns with complete and correct information after going through the Information Brochure. Incomplete/ false/ wrong information will entail rejection of application. Any claim based on wrong information, wrong course code, category (OBC/ SC/ ST/ EWS/ Gen), etc. will not be entertained at a later stage.
• After proper filling of the application form and payment of fee online, candidates can download their printable application from the University website by following the instructions therein.
