Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates with at least 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grade points on the UGC 10-point grading scale at the Master’s Degree/ M.Phil Degree or equivalent level in the concerned or allied/ cognate subject from the University or a recognized institution (national/ international) are eligible for admission. A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or equivalent grade points shall be given to candidates belonging to ST/SC/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ EWS/ Differently-abled and other categories as per the UGC decision and approved by the Academic Council from time to time.
- A candidate seeking admission to Ph.D programme after a 4-year/ 8-semester Bachelor’s Degree programme should have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade. A relaxation of 5% marks (from75% to 70%) or equivalent grade points shall be given to candidates belonging to ST/SC/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ EWS/ Differently-abled and other categories as per the UGC decision and approved by the Academic Council from time to time.
- The Reservation Policy of the Government of India/UGC shall be followed.
- Students who have appeared for the final year examination and awaiting their result are eligible to apply subject to submission of final marksheet on or before the date of entrance examination (to be notified by the concerned Department separately).
Ph. D programmes with special eligibility criteria for admission:
- PhD in Forestry: Candidates passed a M.Sc. (Forestry) with any specialization in Forestry with a minimum of 2-years or 4 Semester programme of the university or an equivalent examination recognized by the university with minimum percentage of 55% or equivalent CGPA (relaxable to the extent of 5% for SC/ST).
- PhD in Agribusiness Management: Candidates with at least 55% marks or a minimum of B grade (CGPA) in the 7 point UGC Scale at the Master’s Degree Level or Equivalent will be eligible for admission to the PhD programme in the same or cognate subject. However, in cases of candidates belong to SC/ST categories, the minimum percentage/CGPA may be relaxed to the extent provided by the Government of India policy on such matters. Further, subject to availability of vacancies, candidates from disciplines/subjects other than those dealt by the concerned Department/Centre may be admitted, provided they belong to allied/cognate subject and the expertise in such subject available in the Department/Centre.
- PhD in Food Technology: Candidates having M.Tech./M.Sc. in Food Engineering and Technology/Food Technology/ Food Science and Technology/Food Science and Nutrition/Fermentation Technology/Dairy Technology/Postharvest Technology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Fermentation Technology and allied/cognate subjects with at least 55% marks or a minimum of ‘B’ grade (CGPA) in the 7 point UGC Scale at the Master’s Degree Level or Equivalent will be eligible for admission to the PhD programme in the same or cognate subject. However, in cases of candidates belong to SC/ST categories, the minimum percentage/CGPA may be relaxed to the extent provided by the Government of India policy on such matters. Further, subject to availability of vacancies, candidates from disciplines/subjects other than those dealt by the concerned Department/Centre may be admitted, provided they belong to allied/cognate subject and the expertise in such subject available in the Department/Centre.
- PhD in Horticulture: Candidates passed a M.Sc. (Horticulture)/ M.Sc. (Ag. In Horticulture) with any specialization in Horticulture with a minimum of 2-years or 4 Semester programme of the university or an equivalent examination recognized by the university with minimum percentage of 55% or equivalent CGPA with 5% lower achievement for SC/ST.
- PhD in Rural Development & Agricultural Production: Candidate with M.Sc. degree in RDAP, Rural Development, Economics, Geography. Home Science/Community Science, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology. Zoology. Food Science and Nutrition, Food Technology, Botany, Branches of Agriculture and Horticulture, Branches of Life Sciences, Environmental Science/Studies and Forestry.
Selection Process
- There shall be an Admission Committee consisting of the Head of the Department/Centre concerned as Chairperson and all teachers eligible for supervision as members to oversee the admission process and conduct a personal interview of the candidates.
- Candidates with at least 50% marks/scores in the Entrance Test conducted by the concerned Department/Centre shall be called for the personal interview. A relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layers)/differently-abled categories.
- Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/ UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) /SLET /GATE /ICSSR NET/Teacher Fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil Programme shall be given an additional weightage of 10 points.
- The Admission Committee shall complete the process and submit the combined merit list of the candidates to the Dean within 5 working days following the written test.
