Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates for admission to the Ph.D programme shall have a Master’s Degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently abled and other categories of candidate as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their master’s degree prior to 19th September 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (for an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
  • Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. Course Work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to do research work leading to the Ph.D Degree. A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non- creamy layer)/ Differently abled and other categories of candidate as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • A candidate, whose M.Phil. Dissertation has been evaluated, and the viva voce is pending, may be admitted to the PhD programme of the same Institution.
  • Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D programme.

Additional weightage during the Selection Process

  • Persons with M.Phil. Degree from Nagaland University.
  • Candidates qualified in any National Eligibility Test (NET) recognized by the UGC.
  • Candidates with JRF.
  • Candidates securing an average ‘A’ grade of 60% and above in the coursework of an M.Phil. Programme of Nagaland University.

Subject to the availability of seats, candidates belonging to the following categories and fulfilling the general eligibility criteria may also be admitted on the recommendation of the Department:

  • Regular employees of Nagaland University.
  • Teachers of colleges affiliated to Nagaland University with an experience of at least three (3) years of continuous service.
  • Persons with at least 9 (nine) years of experience in Administration and Management and having specialized knowledge in the proposed field of research to the satisfaction of the department concerned.
  • Persons who have completed at least one year of research in a University/Institution after his/her registration, provisional or otherwise, under the supervision of a teacher.

Application Process

  • Applicants can apply ONLY through Online Mode of application.
  • Read instruction given there carefully before filling application form.
  • If applying to more than one department/program, separate application forms need to be submitted as well as separate payments have to be made. The same payment receipt should not be used for applying to more than one department. If such cases are discovered, the application forms will be rejected without any further communication to the applicant.

Selection Process

  • Regarding Ph.D. Admission, NET will be regarded as the Entrance Test in line with the Public Notice of UGC No. F.4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024(NET)/14068 of 27th March 2024.
  • No separate test will be conducted and the NET score will have a weightage of 70%, interview which will carry 30% weightage will be conducted by the respective Departments.
  • If there are any seats vacant from NET quota, it may be filled from the N.U Entrance Test.
