Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology – IASST Guwahati JRF Admission 2026 (Jan)

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati is an autonomous R&D Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The Institute invites applications for admission as Institutional JRF of IASST, Guwahati for the January 2026 Session.

Selected candidates, after joining, will be eligible to apply for PhD admission in AcSIR or University under which supervisor is affiliated.

Eligibility

Candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission and registration within the ongoing program of research at IASST, if

• He/she has obtained 55% marks in aggregate (Equivalent CGPA on 10 point scale) in the master’s degree examination. A candidate belonging to SC/ST who has obtained 50% marks in aggregate in master degree examination shall also be eligible to apply.
• Qualified valid national PhD research fellowship (CSIR-NET- JRF/UGC-NET- JRF) OR Qualified CSIR/UGC-NET Category–2 (appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD) / CSIR/UGC-NET Category–3 (admission to PhD only) / Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) with validity of test score.

Age Limit (as on last date of application)

Upper age limit is 28 years. Age relaxation as per the GOI Norms.

Basic Qualification

• For Life Sciences Division
  • Applied Microbiology and Biomedicine / Pharmacology and Drug Discovery: M.Sc. in any Branch of Life Sciences / M. Pharm /MS Pharm / MSC Biotechnology / MSC Zoology
• For Physical Sciences Division
  • Condensed Matter Physics/Materials Science/ Soft matters / Expt. Condensed Matters/ Plasma Physics/ Atomic and Molecular Physics: M.Sc. in Physics
  • Biophysics and Applied Plasma Physics: M.Sc. in Physics / Chemistry

Selection Procedure

• The applicants who do not satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria will not be considered for shortlisting/selection process.
• Those candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria will be called for interview.
• Selection will be based on the performance in the Interview and availability of vacant seat.
• The expected date of Interview will be displayed in website/communicated to the shortlisted candidates.
• List of applicants shortlisted to appear in the Interview will be uploaded in the IASST website.
• Specific instructions regarding the interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates only.
• The decisions of the admission committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
• Results of final selection will be available in IASST website and all correspondence must be done through the email to registrar@iasst.gov.in.
• Selected candidates, after joining, will be eligible to apply for PhD admission in AcSIR or University under which supervisor is affiliated.
• No TA/DA will be provided to the candidate for appearing in the selection interview.

Fellowship/Financial support for institutional JRF

• Selected candidates will be required to join the institutional fellowship program of IASST from 1st January 2026. The selected candidates shall be eligible for a monthly fellowship as per the recent circular of DST, Govt. of India on fellowship for Ph.D.
• The fellowship amount is Rs. 37000 + HRA (as applicable) for JRF.
• Subject to availability of seat, selected candidates will be provided accommodation in the Dorothy Hodgkin Student and Scientists Home as per the Institute’s rule.
