Eligibility Criteria
The following candidates are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:
- The candidates who have completed a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. OR equivalent qualification from an international educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is recognized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in the respective country or any other statutory authority in that country to accredit quality and standards of the educational institution.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the direction of UGC from time to time.

- Candidates in service (permanent or temporary) must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of counselling.
- The reservation of seats will be as per the Government of Assam guidelines.
Admission Procedure
- Candidates will be admitted to Ph.D programmes through an Entrance Test .
- Candidates having qualified UGC-NET (LS)/ UGC-CSIR (LS)/ UGC-NET (only for PhD)/ UGC-CSIR (only for PhD)/ SLET/GATE/ CEED after their PG, UGC-NET JRF/ UGC-CSIR JRF/ ICMR-JRF qualified candidates will be exempted form Gurcharan University-RET ( Research Entrance Test).
- Candidates with M.Phil. degree as per UGC regulations will get coursework grade/percentage of marks as bonus. However they have to complete the Course on Research Publication and Ethics paper before submission of the thesis.
- Candidates will be selected through a two-stage process that is:
- (a) A Written Test conducted by the university to test the knowledge of research methodology (50%) and the relevant subject (50%). Qualifying marks for the test will be 50%. The test shall be conducted by the department notified in advance.
- (b) An interview, to be organised by the concerned department where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted DRC.
- (c) Provided that for the selection of candidates based on the entrance test conducted by the University, a weightage of 70 % for the entrance test and 30% for the performance in the interview/viva- voce shall be given.
- All candidates, including those exempted from the Entrance Test, must submit their applications and participate in the admission process within the stipulated time frame.
- Candidates will be shortlisted for admission based on the number of available seats, departmental requirements, research interests of the applicants, and their performance in the interview. The University reserves the right not to fill vacant seats if suitable candidates are not found or if any administrative constraints arise. The University may also increase the number of seats if vacancies arise during the admission process.
- All selected research scholars must strictly follow the regulations of the Ph.D. programme 2026 of Gurucharan University. Attendance in the Ph.D. coursework is compulsory, and candidates with less than 75% attendance will not be permitted to appear in the coursework examination. Non-compliance with programme regulations may result in cancellation of admission. However, teachers and professionals may be exempted from attending classes. They will have to submit assignment on each course as per the direction of the concerned departments.
- Reservation of seats for different categories will be implemented in accordance with the applicable Government rules and regulations.
Application Process
- ligible candidates may apply online through Gurucharan University Samarth portal.
- Applicants may apply to a maximum of two allied departments. Separate applications along with the prescribed application fee must be submitted for each department. The paid application fee is non refundable.

- Online Registration for Admission will begin: 20 March, 2026 to 26 March, 2026
- Scrutiny of online applications, documents verification & intimation to eligible applicants by the Departments: 26 March, 2026 to 27 March, 2026
- Interview of shortlisted candidates / written test & interview for candidates belonging to subjects in which UGC-NET is not conducted: 27 March, 2026 to 28 March, 2026
- Declaration of provisional List: 31 March, 2026
- Commencement of PhD Coursework & closure of admission: 6 April, 2026
