Guru Jambheshwar University Moradabad PhD Admission 2025-26

Guru Jambheshwar University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh invites application for Ph.D. (Regular/Part-time) programme in various subjects for the academic session 2025–26.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent by the relevant statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate, or an equivalent grade (e.g. “B” grade on the UGC 7-point scale).
• A relaxation of 5% (i.e., to 50%) in minimum qualifying marks will be granted to candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the State Government/University from time to time, or those who have completed their Master’s degree before 19th September 1991, in accordance with Government or University regulations. Degrees obtained from foreign institutions must be from universities recognized by an appropriate Assessment and Accreditation Agency as approved by the University.
• Subject Relevance : A candidate is ordinarily eligible to pursue research in the subject of their Master’s degree. In the case of interdisciplinary or allied subjects, eligibility shall be determined as per the provisions of UGC and U.P. Government Rules and Regulations.
• Candidates who are appearing/appeared in the final semester/year of their postgraduate examination are eligible to apply, provided they fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria in their final result.

Selection Process

Research Entrance Test (RET)

• Candidates holding a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification are required to appear in the written entrance examination conducted by the University as a pre-requisite for eligibility to the interview stage.
• Based on their performance in this qualifying examination, shortlisted candidates will be invited to appear for the interview.

RET Examination Structure

• Paper I: Research Aptitude and General Awareness
• Paper II: Subject-Specific Knowledge
• Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
• Duration: 2 hours for each paper
• Total Marks: 100 marks per paper (total 200)
• Qualifying Marks:
  • General Category: 50% (combined score)
  • Reserved Categories: 45% (combined score)

RET Syllabus

• For most disciplines, the RET syllabus will be the same as the UGC/CSIR NET.
• For disciplines where NET is not conducted: University prescribed PG syllabus

Interview and Selection

• The shortlisted candidates based on RET-2025 performance and the candidates exempted from RET will be called for the interview for available seat in the concerned subject.
• The Research Degree Committee (RDC)/interview committee reserves the right not to fill all advertised vacancies if suitable candidates are not found.

Exemption From RET

Candidates claiming exemption under any of the below categories must submit their application and are required to pay the applicable fee. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification.

The following categories of candidates shall be exempted from appearing in the RET-2025 and will be eligible to appear directly for the interview:

A. National Eligibility Holders

Candidates who have qualified any of the following National level examinations are exempted from the RET:

• JRF/CSIR/JEST/GPAT/GATE/NET
• Equivalent National or International Research Fellowships
• UP SLET (Uttar Pradesh State Lecturer Eligibility Test)

Admissions of candidates holding valid research fellowships will be processed in accordance with UGC, Ph.D. Ordinance-2020 of MJPRU, Bareilly, and U.P. Government Rules and Regulations.

Note: All exempted candidates must submit the application form and pay the prescribed fee, as applicable to regular RET applicants.

B. University and Government-Aided College Faculty

Permanent Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors appointed on substantive posts in the teaching departments of Guru Jambheshwar University or in its affiliated government and Government-aided colleges, who have:

• Successfully completed their probation period, and
• Possess a minimum of two years of uninterrupted service, shall be eligible for exemption from RET-2025.

Note: Teachers employed in self-financed/private colleges shall not be eligible for exemption.

C. Senior Armed Forces Personnel

Serving officers from the Army, Navy, or Air Force holding the rank of Colonel or equivalent and above with a minimum of 15 years of service, shall be exempted from RET-2025, if applying for Ph.D. in Defence and Strategic Studies.

Application Process

• Download the application form for RET-2025 from the University website: https://gjum.ac.in/download and get its print out.
• Fill up all the details mentioned in application form and attach the supporting documents with it.
• Pay the application fee online through https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect
• The duly filled application form (along with all necessary self-attested documents and fee receipt) must be submitted by hand at the University Campus or must reach by registered/speed post.
