Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who have completed the following may apply:

  • A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed. OR Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit, or assure the quality and standards of the educational institution.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit, or assure the quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Person With Disability (PWD): Visually Impaired and/or Hearing Impaired and/or Orthopedically Handicapped (on horizontal reservation basis) candidates have to submit a self-attested copy of the Disability Certificate issued by the District Chief Medical Officer/Medical Board. The disability benefits will be given to those candidates only who have at least 40% physical impairments. The percentage of disability should be mentioned in the certificate.

Provisional admission shall be given only to those applicants who have appeared in the final year/semester examination of the qualifying examination and whose result is awaited. The admission of such students shall be purely provisional, and they will have to submit their result by a date as fixed by the department/university, failing which their provisional admission will automatically stand cancelled, and the fee paid by them shall stand forfeited. No representation in this regard shall be entertained at any level.

Applicants having supplementary/ATKT/backlog in any annual/semester examination and whose supplementary/ATKT/backlog result is awaited at the time of the interview shall not be granted admission.

Selection Procedure

  • Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar has decided to use National Eligibility Test (NET) scores for admission from the academic session 2024-25.
  • The UGC-NET/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ CEED and other equivalent National Level Test qualified applicant will be admitted into the Ph.D. programme in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022 and subsequent amendments.
  • The admission will be based on combined merit of NET (or other equivalent national level test) and marks obtained in interview. The same criteria shall be followed for GATE/GPAT or other equivalent national level test qualified applicants.
  • If obtained marks in National Level Test is Z out of total maximum marks N, then the 70% weightage will be calculated as {(Z/N)x70}
  • The marks obtained in the NET-2024 (June/Dec) by the candidates in Categories 2 and 3 will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D.
  • Score of NET prior to 2024 shall not be valid for Ph.D. admission in the university for academic session 2024-25. However, the validity of JRF will be counted form as mentioned in the JRF Award letter.
  • Admission to Ph.D. programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences will be on the basis of GPAT score. The candidate must have passed M.Pharm. /MS from PCI approved institution/NIPER/Department of recognized University.
  • As in the case of Category 2 & 3, due weightage to the NET score of Category-1 candidates should be given (i.e., not below 70% weightage of NET- 2024 or other equivalent National Level Tests score).

Interview & Merit List

  • The university may decide the number of eligible applicants to be called for an interview based on the number of vacant seats. A cut-off score may be decided, if so desired.
  • The date of the interview will be finalized by the Admission Cell of the university. The date, time, and venue of the interview will be notified on the University website.
  • Eligible applicants will be called for an interview (with a research proposal). The Departmental Research Committee (DRC) will discuss the research interest of the applicant through presentation (preferably PowerPoint). Apart from research interest, the committee will also gauge the aptitude and competence of the applicant in research.
  • In case of the same score (marks) of two or more applicants in the final merit list, the order will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the PG degree. If this is also the same, the marks obtained in the UG degree will be considered. Seniority in age shall be the last option.
  • In case of any controversy/dispute, the decision of the University shall be final and binding.
