Central University of Tamil Nadu PhD Admission 2026 (Aug)

Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) invites application for PhD Admission 2026 (Aug).

Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D. Programmes under Exempted Category and Entrance Exam Category.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have successfully completed:

• A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree programme (after 4 year undergraduate degree) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its
  equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10- point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an
  equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved,
  recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in
  that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions.
• A 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree programme, with the same conditions as above;
• Eligibility for Admissions to Ph.D. Programme in Law: i) Two-year/four-semester Master’s Degree after a five-year/three-year
  Bachelor Programme in Law, with a minimum of 55% marks aggregate or equivalent grade or ii) One year/two semester Master’s Degree after a five-year/three-year Bachelor Programme in Law, with a minimum of 55% marks aggregate or equivalent grade
• A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree with Research should have a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10.
• Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10-
  point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a Foreign Institution
  accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or
  incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and
  standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
• A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and recommended for award of the degree, may be admitted to the Ph.D.
  programme in any Institution on a provisional basis even before the viva-voice or final defence.

Exempted Category:

University shall invite candidates who qualify Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) under UGC/CSIR-UGC NET or any Governmental agencies, or a pass in a national leveltest such as NET/GATE/CEED, etc., for interview.

• PhD (Applied Psychology): Psychology or allied subjects, or an equivalent Degree.
• PhD (Biotechnology): Life Sciences/ Zoology/ Animal Sciences/ Biomedical Sciences/ Biological Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Genetics/ Botany/ Plant Sciences.
• PhD (Chemistry): Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry/ Inorganic Chemistry/ Physical Chemistry or an equivalent degree.
• PhD (Commerce): Commerce / MBA or Post Graduation in Financial Economics / Econometrics / Statistics or Equivalent or ACA/ACS/CMA or M.Phil. in Commerce / Management / Financial Economics / Statistics.
• PhD (Computer Science): Computer Science / Information Technology or allied subjects.
• PhD (Economics): Economics
• PhD (English): English
• PhD (Education):M.Ed. Degree from an NCTE approved Institution.
• PhD (Epidemiology & Public Health): Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Work, Sociology, MD/PSM/MVSc/ MPH/, and other relevant disciplines.
• PhD (Geology): Geology/Applied Geology/ Marine Geology/Geophysics or related disciplines of Earth Sciences.
• PhD (Geography): Geography/Applied Geography or related disciplines of Earth Sciences.
• PhD (History): History
• PhD (Hindi): Relevant or allied subject.
• PhD (Horticulture):M.Sc. in Horticulture / Fruit Science / Vegetable Science / Floriculture/ Spices, Plantation Crops & Medicinal and Aromatics / Post Harvest Technology / M.Sc. (Agri.) in Horticulture / Plant Breeding and Genetics/ Seed Science and Technology / Biotechnology.
• PhD (Law): Law, or an equivalent degree.
• PhD (Library and Information Science): Library and Information Science Programme.
• PhD (Management): Management (two years duration).
• PhD (Mass Communication): Mass Communication /Journalism and Mass Communication/Communication.
• PhD (Materials Science): Materials Science Physics/ Chemistry / Applied Physics / Applied Chemistry / Nano Science / Nano Technology / Electronics (OR) M.E./M.Tech. in Materials Science/Mechanical Engg. / Metallurgy / Nano Technology / Nano electronics/Applied Electronics / Ceramic Technology / Polymer Technology (except Computer Science/IT/Food Technology).
