Eligibility Criteria
- All those students who:
- possess Acharya/M.A. in any subject of Sanskrit or equivalent degree from Universities/Deemed Universities/Private Universities recognized by University Grants Commission, with at least 55% marks,
- or, appearing in 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme
- or, appearing in a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Commission from time to time. and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants
- All foreign students who have passed a master’s degree in any branch of Sanskrit from a recognized University in India with a minimum of 55% marks or in its equivalent category, or students holding a certified degree by the Academic Council of University, can apply through the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and through the Ministry of Education.
- Candidates who have qualified the UGC NET (JRF, Assistant Professor and only Ph.D.) December 2024 & June 2025 shall be eligible to apply to the Ph.D. programme. Candidates can apply as per the valid date mentioned in the JRF letter.
- For Foreign Students who appeared in the UGC NET Exam, the selection criteria will be the same. It is noteworthy that for foreign students it will be mandatory to take approval from the institution(s) prescribed by the Government of India for further necessary action. Also, it shall be mandatory to take action as per the rules prescribed from time to time. The rules for eligibility are decided in the light of the UGC regulation, 2022 named University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) as UGC Gazetted Notification dated 7th November 2022 and in supersession of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of M.Phil. /Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2016 and its amendments.
Admission Process
The selection criteria shall be as follows:
- 70% weightage for the score obtained in UGC NET (JRF, Assistant Professor and only Ph.D.)
- 30% weightage for the score obtained in the performance in the interview (Written & Oral Presentation).
Process of Admission
- The candidates will register themselves through the Samarth Portal submitting the all concerned documents.
- The candidates will be required to appear in the written presentation as a part of the interview which is scheduled at these locations: Agartala, Puri, Bangaluru, Jaipur, Bhopal, Prayagraj, Nashik, Jammu, Devprayag, Delhi, Kangra, Shringeri, Guruvayur & Lucknow. The University has reserved the right to change/cancel/extend the location for written presentation. Minimum 20 candidates are required to schedule a location for written presentation.
- The syllabus and the model question paper for the written presentation are published on the university website. The candidates are advised to consider the concerned syllabus for the same.
- The list of the candidates for the oral presentation will be prepared as required 40% minimum marks in written presentation. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-Abled, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
- The oral presentation will be organized by the CSU focusing on the following aspects: the competencies related to the proposed research.
- the understanding of the candidates regarding the thrust areas of research as published in Research Policy of CSU.
- the depth of knowledge of the concerned subject.
- the language proficiency in Sanskrit, or concerned language.
- Sanskrit medium for written and oral presentations will be mandatory. The candidates from Modern Subjects, Indian Knowledge System, Yoga Science, Foreign Students and other languages (Hindi, English, Pali, Prakrit, Sociology, Political Science, History etc.), will be exempted from Sanskrit medium. Such candidates may be allowed to use Hindi/English medium.
- The candidates obtaining 40% minimum marks in the oral presentation will be selected for the final merit list. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-Abled, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
Final Merit List
The final Merit list will be prepared considering the ratio for UGC NET (JRF, Assistant Professor and only Ph.D.) and Interview (written & oral presentations) as 70:30.
