Eligibility Criteria
A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
OR
M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
OR
A 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme (with research) with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
Selection Process
Through Admission Test. The Total Merit will have the following components:
- a) Written Test : 80 Marks
- b) Presentation-cum-Interview : 20 Marks
Note: Candidates shall be called for Interview on the basis of the performance in the written test. For the candidates who qualify written test, physical presence in the Interview is compulsory to become eligible for selection.
Additional Information
- Candidates who qualify for JRF in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET / GATE / CEED and similar National level tests with a score more than or equal to the qualifying marks of General Category, valid at the time of admission, are exempted from appearing in the written test. However, they must appear in the presentation-cum-interview in person to become eligible for selection.
- Exemption from appearing in the written test will be applicable to only those candidates who are eligible for the same on the notified last date of receipt of Application Form and have attached documentary proof of the same with their Application Form.
- Candidate eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme in more than one Faculty of the University can apply for the same but such a candidate will have to fill separate Application Form for each Faculty. However, such a candidate can apply only in a maximum of two disciplines within the same Faculty.
- For detailed eligibility rules, admission procedure and additional rules, the candidate may peruse the Ordinances (Academic), and its Regulations, of the University pertaining to Ph.D. available on the website.
AMU PhD Entrance Test Details
It shall consist of the following sections:
- Section A: Research Aptitude / Methodology
- It shall be of 45 minutes’ duration. There shall be 40 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 1 mark each on Research Aptitude / Methodology.
- Section B: Subject Specific
- It shall be of 45 minutes’ duration. There shall be 40 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 1 mark each covering equitably, as far as possible, all topics of syllabus.
Note: It is essential that the candidate obtains a minimum of 50% marks in the written test to be eligible for Presentation-cum-interview/ admission.
Test Centre(s): The Admission Test shall be held at Aligarh (U.P.) only.
