Eligibility Criteria
A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed under Clauses 4.2(i)–(iv) of the Tripura University Ph.D. Regulations, 2024 (Revised), read with the applicable UGC norms and the disciplinespecific requirements, wherever prescribed.
- Master’s Degree
- A candidate shall possess
- a one-year/two-semester Master’s degree after a four-year/eight-semester Bachelor’s degree, or
- a two-year/four-semester Master’s degree after a three-year Bachelor’s degree, or
- an equivalent qualification recognised by the corresponding statutory/regulatory body,
- with at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade on the applicable grading scale. The qualifying degree must be from a recognised University/Institution or an equivalent qualification recognised by the competent statutory/regulatory authority.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade shall be allowed to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Differently-Abled/EWS and other categories, as applicable under UGC/Government rules and the University’s Ph.D. Regulations.
- A candidate shall possess
- Candidates with Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree
- A candidate seeking admission after a four-year/eight-semester Bachelor’s degree shall have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade, with the applicable 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Differently-Abled/EWS and other eligible categories in accordance with the Ph.D. Regulations.
- M.Phil. Candidates
- Candidates who have completed an M.Phil. Programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade shall also be eligible, subject to the applicable provisions of the Ph.D. Regulations and UGC norms.
Admission Modes
Admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall be made through the modes prescribed in Clause 6 of the Tripura University Ph.D. Regulations, 2024 (Revised), subject to the eligibility of the candidate, availability of notified seats, availability of eligible Research Supervisors and fulfilment of all other applicable conditions.
The following categories/modes shall be applicable:
A. Candidates qualified in National-Level Eligibility/Fellowship Examinations
- Candidates who have qualified for fellowship/scholarship through UGC-NET/ UGC-CSIR-NET/ CEED/GPAT/NET with NFSC/NFST fellowship or similar recognised national-level tests, as applicable to the concerned discipline, shall be considered in accordance with the University’s Ph.D. Regulations and shall appear for the prescribed interview/viva-voce before the concerned Departmental Research Committee (DRC). Such candidates shall complete the prescribed Ph.D. coursework in the manner notified by the University.
B. Candidates qualified under UGC-NET Categories 2 and 3
- Candidates qualifying under the applicable UGC-NET categories, including Category 2 and Category 3/NET-LS/Ph.D. admission category, shall be considered in accordance with the prevailing UGC and University provisions and shall appear for the prescribed interview/viva-voce.
C. Research Eligibility Test (RET)
- Tripura University shall conduct the Research Eligibility Test (RET) for all the disciplines/programmes against which vacancies are notified in this Admission Notification, as provided in Clause 6.2(iii) of the Tripura University Ph.D. Regulations, 2024 (Revised).
- The RET shall be conducted in the prescribed subject/discipline and in accordance with the procedure approved by the University. The written component shall include Research Methodology as prescribed under the Ph.D. Regulations.
Admission Criteria
- For category/modes A and B:
- For candidates admitted through UGC-NET Category 2 and Category 3/NET-LS/Ph.D. admission category, the NET percentile and interview/viva-voce shall be considered in the manner prescribed by the prevailing UGC provisions and University notification. For the present admission cycle, wherever applicable, 70% weightage shall be given to the NET percentile and 30% to the interview/viva-voce for preparation of the merit list.
- For category/modes C:
- For candidates selected through RET:
- 70% weightage shall be given to performance in the RET; and
- 30% weightage shall be given to performance in the interview/viva-voce.
- The qualifying marks for the RET shall be 50%. A relaxation of 5% marks shall be allowed in the entrance examination for SC/ST/ OBC-NCL /Differently-Abled/EWS and other eligible categories, as applicable under the UGC/Government rules and the Tripura University Ph.D. Regulations.

- During registration, applicants shall provide a valid email ID and mobile number for future communication. Candidates shall ensure that the name, date of birth, academic details, category and other particulars entered in the application exactly correspond to their authentic documents.
