University of Allahabad PhD Admission 2026-27

University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh invites application for PhD admission in different disciplines for session 2026-27.

Eligibility Criteria

• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year/6 semester bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• For the above said purpose, the percentage of marks obtained by the applicant shall not be rounded off to the next higher integer.
• The eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall be governed by the provisions of the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022, and Ph.D. Ordinance of University of Allahabad, as amended from time to time. The applicant must satisfy the eligibility conditions prescribed under these regulations and any additional requirements notified by the University for the relevant admission session.

Selection Process

The University offers admission to the Ph.D. Programme through the following categories of applicants:

1. Group A: Applicants qualified for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor through UGC/CSIR-NET or holders of equivalent national fellowships specified in this brochure.
2. Group B: Applicants qualified through UGC/CSIR-NET (Assistant Professor/Ph.D. only) or possessing a valid GATE/JEST/ICAR score, wherever applicable.
3. Group C (Exempted Categories): Applicants exempted from the qualifying examination, including regular teachers of the University of Allahabad and its Constituent Colleges, Officers of the Armed Forces, International Applicants, eligible Part-Time Ph.D. applicants, and Project Fellows working in externally funded research projects in the University of Allahabad, as specified in this brochure.For applicants in Group B, the validity of UGC/CSIR NET scores will be valid for one year. Therefore, “Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR NET in June 2024, December 2024 and June 2025 ” will be eligible for consideration in PhD admissions in the academic session 2025-26. “

All applicants, including those exempted from the qualifying examination, are REQUIRED to register online, submit the prescribed application form, and pay the applicable registration fee within the notified schedule.

Shortlisting Ratio

1. Group-A: All the applicants
2. Group-B: 2 times of seats advertised (as per the reservation policy of Government of India)
3. Group-C: All the applicants

Final Merit List

Final merit criteria –

70% weightage will be given to the qualifying examination and 30% weightage to the research aptitude test, (which shall entail an interview and may include Presentations/Group Discussions/Written or other modes of appraisal). The shortlisting criteria for the research aptitude test shall be Marks Obtained by the applicant in the qualifying examination. When the qualifying examination agency publishes only normalised score for any subject then for shortlisting of these applicants normalised score shall be considered.

The obtained marks/normalised score of the qualifying examination shall be converted to 70 marks for Group A and B applicants.

A LIST OF SHORTLISTED APPLICANTS of Group A, B and C for the Research Aptitude Test shall be announced by the concerned Department/ Centre/ Institute.

An applicant shall be considered for Ph.D. admission only after online registration through the Ph.D. admission portal of University of Allahabad.
