Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Bioinformatics: Master’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Computer Science / Information Technology / Agricultural Science / Pharmaceutical Science / Veterinary Science / Medical Science with 55% marks for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates. Preference is given to candidates with a Master’s in Bioinformatics or with a specialization in Bioinformatics.
- Biotechnology: Master’s degree in Biotechnology / Pharmaceuticals Science / Medical Science / Agricultural Science / Chemistry / Physics / any branch of Life Science (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioscience, Environmental Science / Zoology / Botany) with a minimum of 55% for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates.
- Life Science: Master’s degree in any branch of Life Science (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioscience, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science / Plant Science, Animal Science / Veterinary Science / Medical Science) with a minimum of 55% for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates.
- Environmental Science: M.Sc. / M.Sc.(Tech) / M.Tech. in Geophysics / Atmospheric Science / Meteorology / Environmental Science / Biotechnology / Zoology / Botany / Biochemistry / Microbiology / Biodiversity / Conservation Biology / Environmental Biotechnology / Environmental Chemistry / Environmental Engineering with 55% marks for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates.
- Mathematics: Master Degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates.
- Computer Sciences: Master’s Degree in Computer Science / MCA / Equivalent with a minimum of 55% for Unreserved candidates. A relaxation of 5% is available for SC/ST/Differently abled candidates, bringing the minimum to 50%.
- Physics: Master Degree with at least 55% marks for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates in Physics, Space Science, Chemistry, Geophysics, Mathematics, Biophysics, Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science & Technology, Statistics, Astrophysics, or Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering.
- Chemistry: Master Degree with at least 55% marks for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates in Chemistry / Applied Chemistry or in allied subjects like Biochemistry, Medicinal chemistry, Industrial chemistry, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Environmental science, Microbiology, Materials Science, Life Science, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacy, or Agricultural Chemistry.
- Geology: M.Sc. or M.Sc. (Tech) in Geology, M. Tech. Applied Geology & M.Sc. / M.Tech. in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technology, or P.G. pertaining inter- & intra-disciplinary subject with 55% in aggregates for Unreserved candidates. A relaxation of 5% is available for SC/ST /OBC (NCL)/ Differently-abled candidates.
- Pharmacy: Master Degree with at least 55% marks for Unreserved candidates and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (NCL) / differently disabled candidates in Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Drug Regulatory Affair, Clinical Research, Clinical Pharmacology, or Phytochemistry.
- Education: M.Ed. / MA in Education with 55% for Unreserved Category and 50% for SC/ST /OBC (non-creamy layer) /differently disabled candidates.
Selection Process
- Central University of South Bihar will conduct written entrance test
- To be considered for the interview, the candidate must obtain 50% marks for UR category and 45 % for OBC/ SC /ST/ EWS/ PwD in the written entrance test .
- However, obtaining the aforementioned marks shall not guarantee to be considered for Interview. The University can decide a higher cut off marks depending upon the number of qualified candidates in written test and available number of seats. For one seat three candidates shall be considered for interview.
Test A: Assessment Research Methodology and Subject Knowledge (Written and or MCQ):
- The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. This test is aimed to assess the reasoning, quantitative ability, general knowledge, language skill and subject knowledge of PG level.
- The qualifying marks for Test A shall be 50%. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS.
Test B: Assessment of Research Aptitude through Research Plan and Personal Interview:
- The interview/interaction/viva-voce shall be of 100 marks consisting of the following aspects, viz. whether:
- 6-8 pages of research plan submitted satisfactorily defended by the candidate: 30% (15%+15%)
- The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research and can contribute to new / additional knowledge/ depth of subject knowledge: 40% (20%+20%)
- Overall assessment of the candidate based on his/ her attitude, hardworking nature, dedication, responses, presence of mind etc.: 30%
- However, the final merit list shall be prepared on the basis of 70% of the total marks obtained in the Test A (for University entrance examination qualified candidates) and 30% of the total marks obtained in the Test B.
- The final merit for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be prepared based on the combined performance in the written test (where applicable) and the interview.
- Each Department/School shall have the autonomy to determine its own cut-off marks in the final merit list based on overall performance of candidates, number of applicants, and availability of seats, subject to approval by the Admission Committee of the concerned Dept.
- All candidates, whether appearing through the Entrance test or Directly through the interview route, must secure a minimum of 50% marks (for UR) and 45% marks (for EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PH) in the interview to be considered eligible for admission.

- Candidates are required to upload recent passport size photograph, scanned signature and scanned copies of the supporting documents.
- Soon after submission of online application, the candidates should take a print-out of the application form and at the time of appearing for the Ph.D. Entrance Test, she/he shall be required to produce the same along with valid ID proof failing which they shall not be allowed to appear in the Entrance Test.
