University of Allahabad PhD Admission 2025-26

University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh invites application for PhD admission in different disciplines for session 2025-26.

Eligibility Criteria

• Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (50% for EWS /OBC /SC /ST /PwD).
• Before applying to a particular subject, applicants are suggested to check the eligibility criteria in the PhD admission brochure.
• At any stage of the admission process, the University of Allahabad reserves the right to cancel the candidature if the application is not meeting the requisite criteria.
• Reservation: As per Government of India/UGC norms (SC: 15%, ST: 7.5%, OBC-NCL: 27%, EWS: 10%, PwD: 5% horizontal).
• All applicants (other than those exempted such as permanent teachers of AU/constituent colleges, Armed Forces officers, international candidates, and eligible part-time candidates) must qualify the UGC/CSIR exam conducted by NTA to be considered for Ph.D. admission at the University of Allahabad.

Selection Process

The applicants shall be classified into the following three Groups:

1. Group-A: Qualified for JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor
2. Group-B:
   • I. Qualified for appointment as Assistant Professor (NET)
   • II. Qualified for admission to Ph.D. only
3. Group-C: Exempted Applicants

For applicants in Group B, the validity of UGC/CSIR NET scores will be valid for one year. Therefore, “Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR NET in June 2024, December 2024 and June 2025 ” will be eligible for consideration in PhD admissions in the academic session 2025-26. ”

Shortlisting Ratio

1. Group-A: All the applicants
2. Group-B: 2 times of seats advertised (as per the reservation policy of Government of India)
3. Group-C: All the applicants

Exemptions from UGC/CSIR NET Examinations

• Permanent teachers of the University of Allahabad and its constituent colleges.
• Officers of the Armed Forces (with requisite service conditions as per PhD admission brochure) are eligible for Ph.D. admission only in Department of Defence and Strategic Studies
• International candidates (The Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. Programme should contact the International Candidate Advisor of the University)
• Part-Time PhD Option: Available for candidates with minimum 5 years’ professional experience in recognized organizations as per PhD admission brochure.

Final Merit List

Final merit criteria –

• Maximum Academic Performance Score: 20
• Total Marks obtained in Test Conducted by NTA to be converted in Seventy: 70
• Research Aptitude Test (which shall entail an interview and may include Presentations/Group Discussions/Written or other modes of appraisal): 30
• Total Marks: 120

Exempted candidates will be assessed only through Research Aptitude Test (which shall entail an interview and may include Presentations/Group Discussions/Written or other modes of appraisal) at the concerned department.

An applicant shall be considered for Ph.D. admission only after online registration through the Ph.D. admission portal of University of Allahabad.
