University of Calcutta PhD (Tech./Sci.) in Computer Science and Engineering

Applications are invited for admission to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Calcutta (JD-2, Sector-III, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700106) for Ph.D. Course and subsequent research work leading to the Ph.D. degree.

Eligibility

• M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech. /B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, or equivalent, M. Sc. (Computer Science) or equivalent, and MCA. Candidates with B.Tech./B.E. may apply for the program as per provisions in Ph.D. regulations. The same criteria would also be applicable for MCA students.
• The final semester/year students for the above-qualifying courses may also apply. However, if selected, such candidates must complete their qualifying degree before the date of enrolment.

Admission Procedure

• The admission procedure consists of a written test followed by an interview for candidates, successful in the same.
• All the applicants except those who have already passed UGC/CSIR (JRF) examinations, including NET/SET/ SLET/GATE/ Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations or completed the M.Tech./M.E. degree in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent examination, are to appear in the written Examination. However, they must apply within the due date and appear in the interview.

Syllabus for the Test

The questions for the admission test and interview will be based on topics of the following areas: Discrete Mathematics, Operating Systems, Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Networks, Database Management Systems, Programming Languages (C, C++, Java), Computer Architecture, Artificial Intelligence Machine learning etc. The interview will be based on basic computing knowledge and the candidate’s research emphasis.

A soft copy of the duly filled-in application and the signed scanned copies of all the documents in a .zip file must be sent to hodcucse@gmail.com. The email’s subject line must be “Application for Ph.D. 2025”.

No scholarship is provided or granted by the Department or the University based on this selection into the Ph.D. program.
