Eligibility Criteria
- Masters’ degree in Engineering/Technology or its equivalent with at least 65% marks in aggregate or its equivalent Grade-B in UGC -7 points scale.
- First class in Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology and Master’s degree in Pure Science with at least 65% marks in aggregate. However, they have to appear and qualify in an Entrance test and have to go through other formalities as per CU PhD regulation 2016.

Entrance Test and Selection Criteria
- The Ph.D. research entrance test (RET) will be written test for all eligible candidates. The examination will be of 1 (one) hour duration, at Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta, 92 APC Road, Kolkata-700009.
- The questions of the Entrance Test will, in general, cover topics of Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, basics of Physics, Electronics, Communication Systems and Computer Science.
- Qualifying marks for entrance test will be 65%. The qualified candidates will have to appear for an online presentation on specific research proposal for final selection.
- The final list of selected candidates will be prepared based on the merit of the research proposal, interview performance and falling within the scope of research of Electrical Engineering Faculties of this department.
- Declaration of names of selected candidates to be communicated electronically (After the approval from Hon’ble Vice Chancellor).

After depositing the fees, the challan / transaction reference number to be mentioned in the application form and a print copy of the challan to be enclosed along with the application form.
Documents to be enclosed along with the filled-in application form:
- Self-attested copies of marksheets of 10th , 10+2 level, BE/BTech, ME/ MTech plus other qualifications, if any.
- Evidence of research work undertaken/ papers published in journals/conferences out of research/ project work carried out earlier, if any.
- A one-page abstract of research proposal.
