Sidho Kanho Birsha University – SKBU PhD Admission 2026

Sidho Kanho Birsha University (SKBU) -Purulia, West Bengal invites application for PhD Admission 2026 (1st Part i.e. Course Work).

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have completed a 01 year/ 02 semesters Master’s Degree after a 04 years/ 08 Semester Bachelor’s Degree; or a 02 year/04 semester Master’s Degree after a 03-year/06 Semester Bachelor’s Degree; or qualification declared to be equivalent to Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body shall be eligible for admission. Candidates must obtain 55% marks in the Master’s or equivalent level.
• Candidates who have completed the Post Graduate programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
• However, 5% or such other per cent as may be decided by the Government from time to time may be relaxed for SC/ST/OBC/Differently able candidates and for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
• Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 04 years / 08 semesters Bachelor’s (Honours with Research) should have a minimum of 75 per cent marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.
• Any Master’s Degree including M.Ed. for less than two years duration will not be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

Selection Process

Students who qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC-CSIRNET/ GATE/CEED/ INSPIRE/WISE and similar National Level Tests, UGC NET (Category-2 & 3) and SET will not be required to appear at the Research Eligibility Test (RET). However, they will have to submit the application form along with the required fees to appear at the Viva-voce directly.

In case of a candidate holding a qualifying degree from other University, admission for the Ph.D. programme will proceed after determination of equivalence of the qualifying degree by the relevant University body and fulfillment of the admission criteria.

Foreign students will be required to produce clearance from the Government of India and/or other appropriate authorities, if any, for admission to the Ph.D. Programme. Enrolment in the Ph. D. programme may be allowed to only such foreign nationals who have obtained a research visa and fulfilled other admission criteria. Foreign students will be admitted through the policy framed by SKBU for foreign scholars.
