Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates who have completed 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4- year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. The equivalence of the degree will be decided by the statuary bodies of the University.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/BC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/BC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/BC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Selection Process
Admission to Ph.D. program shall be made in the following manner:
- Admission of UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests qualified candidates based on an interview.
- The merit list for admission of such candidates shall be prepared by the respective department, with a weightage of 70% marks assigned to the candidate’s performance in NET/GATE/other valid qualifying National Level Tests and 30% marks assigned to the performance in the interview conducted by the department.
- The marks obtained in the NET by the candidates in Categories 2 and 3 will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D.
- Through Entrance Test in subjects where NET examination is not conducted by the UGC.
- The university shall admit students, who have not qualified UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, through an Entrance Test for the subject which are not included in UGC-NET/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED. The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology, and 50% shall be subject specific. Test syllabus of Research Methodology will be the same for all disciplines (Annexure B) and Subject specific syllabus will be notified soon.
- Students who have secured minimum 50 % marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview.
- The entrance examination will be compulsory for subjects not covered under UGC/CSIR NET/GATE/CEED.
- A relaxation of 5 % marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/BC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- The university shall decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.
- For selection of candidates based on the entrance test conducted by the university, a weightage of 70% for the entrance test and 30% for the performance in the interview shall be given to prepare the Merit list.
- The interview shall be intended to test the research acumen of the candidate. The candidate shall appear for an interview with a statement of purpose about research. The Interview shall be of 30 marks. Merely being eligible for the interview and facing it does not entitle the candidate for Ph.D. admission. Based on the performance in the interview a candidate may be reported as ‘Not Found Suitable’ and hence may not get selected The candidates having qualified for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR-NET/ GATE/CEED and similar national level tests shall be exempted from taking Entrance Test but they are required to appear for interview. The number of candidates called for an interview may be decided by the Department concerned on the basis of the number of Ph.D. seats available.
Financial Assistance
- Research scholars who are working in projects as JRF and SRF shall get financial assistance from the fund of the projects.
- Full-time Ph.D. scholars who are not receiving any financial assistance may be considered for financial support under the University Research Scholarship (URS) scheme, as per the provisions of the University’s Ph.D. Ordinance, upon becoming eligible for the same. The amount of this scholarship shall be **Rs. 15,000/- per month.
- **May be increased to Rs 25000/- per month subject to approval by statuary bodies of the university
- Each scholar receiving this scholarship shall also receive a contingency grant of Rs. 5000/- per annum. This amount may be utilized on apparatus, chemicals, books and journals, Photostat copies, macro films, typing, stationery, postage and field work/travel, conference/workshops needed in connection with the approved research projects. The contingency grant is not intended for making payment of examinations and other fees.
- Financial assistance shall not be provided where the research scholar is availing paid study leave.
- The PhD Scholar will have to mandatorily submit Parivar Pahchan Patra (PPP) issued by the State Govt. of Haryana.
