School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPAV), an Institute of National Importance established by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, announces the Rolling Admissions for the Doctoral Programmes (Part Time & Full Time).
PhD Disciplines

Eligibility
- Applicants must have qualifying degrees with CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% overall marks in case of Open/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates in the qualifying Master’s degree as given in section C(d) herewith, whereas in case of SC/ST/PwD candidates, a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% overall marks for the qualifying Master’s degree as given in section C(d) herewith, will be applicable or the applicable GoI norms adopted by the institute time to time.
- Applicants who are applying as “sponsored research scholars full time” AND are employees of government organisations / government departments / PSUs / government research organisations must have CGPA of 5.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 50% overall marks for the qualifying Master’s degree as given in section C(d) herewith, to be eligible
- Applicants applying on the basis of only UG Degree as given in section C(d) herewith require a minimum of 70% aggregate or CGPA of 7.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) in case of Open/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates, whereas in case of SC/ST/PwD candidates, a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 65% overall marks AND must have three-year experience in teaching / research / professional practice.
Qualifying Degrees
- PhD in Architecture
- Master Degree in – (a) Architecture OR (b) Urban Design OR (c) Building Engineering & Management / equivalent OR (d) Planning with appropriate specialization, AND Bachelor Degree – in Architecture from any recognized University / Institutions in India* OR
- Bachelor Degree – in Architecture from any recognized University / Institutions in India.
- PhD in Planning
- Master Degree in Planning with appropriate specialization from any recognized University / Institutions in India* OR
- Bachelor Degree in Planning from any recognized University / Institutions in India
- PhD in Building Engineering and Management
- Master Degree in – (a) Building Engineering & Management / equivalent, OR (b) Architecture, OR (c) Urban Design, OR (d) Planning with appropriate specialization, AND Bachelor Degree in – (i) Architecture, OR (ii) Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from any recognized University / Institutions in India* OR
- Bachelor Degree in (i) Architecture OR (ii) Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from any recognized University / Institutions in India
Students pursuing PG Programmes:
- The candidates pursuing final semester PG Programme as per eligibility given in ‘B’, can also apply and must submit the CGPA/Percentage marks secured till the II Semester (for a 2-year PG Programme) and submit all mark sheets till the said semester. Such a student is required to submit an undertaking/certificate issued by their institute, certifying that the applicant is ‘appearing in final examination of final semester’.
- Such candidates, if provisionally admitted, are required to submit final year mark sheets and provisional degree certificate, prior to the commencement of classes at SPA Vijayawada.
- Candidates who have already completed the eligible qualifying degree programmes are required to produce original degree certificate or provisional degree certificates; in case the original degrees are not yet issued.
Admission Process
The applicants shall apply for admission on the prescribed forms with a research write-up and other requisites mentioned in the application format. The list of shortlisted candidates found eligible will be notified and will appear physically for selection process, which shall be assessed in two stages
- Stage-I: Shortlisted candidates are required to appear for a “qualifying written examination” conducted in the campus.
- Stage-II: The candidates who qualify in the Stage–I “qualifying written examination” shall appear for Stage II, which consists of interview and delivering a brief presentation on his/her proposed PhD research interest. Selection shall be based on Stage II assessment only as per institute norms, i.e., the interview, presentation and research write-up

- Presentation of Research Interest: 30

Application Procedure
This is a rolling advertisement and this online link will remain active throughout the year, however, applications will be processed at least twice a year. An applicant can apply online for any number of PhD programmes offered.
Important Dates
- For Odd Semester, applications submitted by 15th march will be considered.
- For Even Semester, applications submitted by 15th September will be considered.
Application Fee
- Rs. 3,000/- for General/EWS/OBC-NCL categories
- Rs. 2,000/- for SC/ST/PwD categories
