Ranchi University invites application for PhD Admission 2024-25 in various programs.

Eligibility Criteria

The following are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme: Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have successfully completed:

  • A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree programme (after 4 year undergraduate degree)with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • A 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree programme, with the same conditions as in sub clause 1 above;
  • A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree with Research should have a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10.
  • Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a Foreign Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
  • A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and recommended for award of the degree, may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme in any Institution on a provisional basis even before the viva-voice or final defence.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their master’s degree before 19th September 1991. Note: The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures, if any.
  • A relaxation of 0.5 score, i.e. CGPA of 7/10 or an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision3 of the Commission from time to time

Exemption (Eligibility for Ph.D Entrance Test 2024)

NET-JRF Candidates are exempted from the entrance test. The selection of the NET-JRF candidates will be on the basis of their performance in the interview/ viva-voce.

Merit list of Entrance Test

The Qualifying marks of the entrance test will be 50%. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance Test for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/ differently-abled category, economically weaker section (EWS) candidates. On the basis of mark obtained in entrance Test, merit list will be prepared of eligible candidates for interview /viva-voce.

The final merit list will be prepared after the interview/ viva voce of all shortlisted candidates is over. The weightage of marks taken into account for preparing final merit list will be 70% for the entrance test and 30% for the performance in the interview/viva- voce.

Reservations

Reservation Policy of the Government of Jharkhand is applicable to the Ph.D entrance exam 2024. According to this, the reservation of seats shall be as follows:

  • 10% of the seats for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates.
  • 26% of seats Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
  • 14% of the seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) (Annexure-I=8%, Annexure-II=6%)
  • 10% of the seats for General-Economically Weaker Sections (General- EWS) candidates.

Application Process

  • Candidates have to download the application form for Ph.D Entrance Test 2024 by accessing the website: https://ranchiuniversity.ac.in.
  • The incomplete Application Form would not be accepted in any case.
  • Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate. More than one application i.e. multiple Application Forms submitted by a candidate will be rejected.
  • Information Bulletin should be downloaded and read carefully by the candidate to be sure about his/her eligibility and acquaint themselves with requirements for submission of Application Form.
  • In order to avoid correction in the particulars in later stage, the candidate should exercise utmost caution while filling up correct details.

PhD Entrance Details

Mode of Examination

Ph.D Entrance Test 2024 will be conducted in OMR Based mode for the qualifying exam.

Pattern of examination

The pattern of examination will include written exam and interview/ viva voce. Viva voce / Interview will be conducted of those students who qualify in the written examination.

The written exam will be of 70 marks whereas 30 marks has been allocated to the presentation on research ideas/ design by the candidate.

Entrance Test will be a multiple choice test; each question will have four options with only one correct answer.

The exam has two papers: Research Methodology (50 questions, 50 marks) and Stream/Discipline Specific (20 questions, 20 marks).

Total time: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Medium of Question Paper The medium of Question Paper shall be in English except language papers.

Marking Scheme

Each question carries 01 (One) mark. For every correct answer candidate will get one mark and 0.5 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit. If a question is found to be incorrect and the Question is dropped, then One mark (+1) will be awarded to only to those candidates who have attempted the question. The reason could be due to human error or technical error.
