Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University – RMPSU Aligarh PhD Admission 2026-27

Application invited for Ph.D. admissions for the 2026-27 session at Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University, Aligarh.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall possess a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade in the applicable grading system.
• Candidates having an equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution shall satisfy the applicable recognition/equivalence requirements of the competent authority.
• Candidates appearing in the final year/semester of the qualifying Master’s degree programme may apply provisionally, subject to completion of the required qualification within the period prescribed by the University.
• A relaxation of 5% marks, from 55% to 50%, shall be applicable to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/ Differently-Abled categories and other categories entitled to relaxation under applicable Government/UGC rules.
• Candidates possessing an M.Phil. degree/course work qualification shall be considered as per the UGC Regulations, 2022 and the University’s Ph.D. Ordinance/Rules.
• Admission in allied/interdisciplinary subjects shall be permitted only where the proposed research area, vacant seat, eligible Research Supervisor and necessary academic/physical facilities are available.

Admission Process

• Eligible candidates shall submit the prescribed online application form through the University Research/Admission Portal within the notified schedule.
• Admissions shall be made through the Research Entrance Test (RET), except for candidates falling under the exempted categories specified in the applicable rules.
• Subject-wise vacant seats shall be notified separately/along with this notification. Seat allocation shall be made subject to reservation, availability of Research Supervisors and other applicable conditions.
• Candidates in the exempted category shall also submit the online application form. Where permitted by the University, such candidates may appear in the RET so that their candidature may be considered through the applicable route.
• Candidates qualifying the RET shall be considered for further admission stages, including interview/viva-voce and evaluation of the research proposal, as prescribed by the University.
• The minimum qualifying marks in the RET shall be as prescribed under the applicable UGC/University rules, including permissible relaxation for reserved categories.
• Merit and final selection shall be prepared in accordance with the RMPSU Ph.D. Ordinance-2024, UGC Regulations, 2022, reservation rules and the criteria notified by the University.

Exemption from the Research Entrance Test

Subject to the UGC Regulations, 2022 and the RMPSU Ph.D. Ordinance-2024, the following categories may be exempted from the Research Entrance Test, wherever applicable:

• Regular teachers of the University and its affiliated/aided colleges who fulfil the prescribed conditions.
• Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF or fellowship examinations recognised for Ph.D. admission, subject to validity and applicable rules.
• Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/CSIR-NET for Ph.D. admission, wherever applicable.
• Candidates having a valid GATE score/qualification, where recognised and applicable to the concerned subject/research area.
• Candidates possessing an M.Phil. degree, where eligible under the applicable UGC/University provisions.
• Candidates covered under any other category specifically exempted by the UGC Regulations, Government orders or RMPSU Ph.D. Ordinance-2024.

Research Entrance Test

• The Research Entrance Test shall be conducted in the pattern notified by Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University, Aligarh.
• The test may consist of 100 objective-type questions carrying one mark each covering Research Methodology/Research Aptitude and the concerned subject ,with a duration of 120 minutes; 30 Questions from research methodology/General aptitude and 70 Questions from the subject concerned.
• The detailed syllabus of RET shall be the same as that of UGC – NET/CSIR-NET.
• The qualifying criteria shall be 50 % of the total marks.
• The final RET pattern shall be governed by the notification issued by RMPSU for the session 2026– 2027.
