Vacancy
Test will be conducted in following subjects:
- Faculty of Humanities -Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Maithili, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Philosophy, Music
- Faculty of Social Sciences- History, Pol. Science, Home Science, A.J.H. & Archaeology, Sociology. Economics, Psychology, P.M. & IR, Geography
- Faculty of Science -Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Mathematics, Statistics
- Faculty of Commerce – Commerce
- Faculty of Law – Law
- Faculty of Education – Education
Eligibility for Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) – 2025:
- Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed).
- A relaxation of 5% of marks (from 55% to 50%) or an equivalent relaxation of grade will be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/EBC/OBC/Differently-abled categories.
- Candidates shall ordinarily be permitted to pursue research for the Ph.D. degree in the subject in which they hold a Master’s degree.
Exemptions from the written Test of Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) – 2025:
- Candidates who have secured grants for research such as fellowship /scholarship /associateship etc. by qualifying UGC NET /CSIR NET GATE MHRD Scholarships/Teacher Fellowship/DBT/ICMRICAR/DST-INSPIRE/CSSIR, ICHR etc.
- Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors appointed on a substantive post in the UGC pay scale in the Teaching departments or the University or a constituent college of the University who have successfully completed their probation with at least two years of uninterrupted service. (Teachers appointed in self-finance courses are not exempted).
- Non-teaching employees of the University holding a substantive appointment for more than five years and having at least 55% marks in a Master’s degree in the concerned subject, along with at least two research papers published in any reputed refereed journal or journals identified by the UGC.
Procedure for Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) – 2025
- The PAT is a written test comprising two papers of 100 marks each.
- Paper I – 100 marks – Objective/multiple-choice questions on general and research aptitude.
- Multiple Choice type.
- No negative marking.
- Duration of examination – 1 hour.
- Examination will be conducted on an OMR sheet.
- Students are not allowed to take out the question booklet of Paper I.
- Paper II – 100 marks – Subjective type in the concerned subject based on the syllabus (excluding elective papers) of the Post-Graduate courses of Patna University.
- Subjective type.
- Duration of Examination – 2 Hours.
- The paper is divided into three groups based on the syllabus (excluding elective papers) of the Post-Graduate Course of Patna University.
- Group A – Total Eight short answer type questions to be set, out of which five are to be answered (expected length of each answer – approximately 150 words). Marks: 30 (5 x 6 = 30)
- Group B – Total seven questions to be set, out of which four are to be answered (expected length of each answer – approximately 200 words). Marks: 40 (4 x 10 = 40)
- Group C – Total four questions to be set, out of which two are to be answered (expected length of each answer – approximately 500 words). Marks: 30 (2 x 15 = 30)
- The candidates are directed to answer questions in sequential order.
- Paper I – 100 marks – Objective/multiple-choice questions on general and research aptitude.
- The minimum qualifying marks for the written test will be as follows:
- For General candidates – 50% aggregate marks.
- For Reserved category candidates – 45% aggregate marks.
- Applicants who have qualified for the PAT would be required to appear before an interview board.
- Interview: Number of Questions – 50.
- It is mandatory for all candidates, including exempted candidates, to appear before the interview Board.
