Faculty wise available Ph.D. Vacancies in Category-II – 2026
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to appear for Ph.D. Entrance Test – 2026 conducted by Osmania University in the subjects pertaining to faculties mentioned above, a candidate must have obtained a PostGraduate degree from a recognized university or a Post-Graduate degree through distance mode from a recognized university and approved by the concerned authority, in the concerned subject or in an allied subject (see Annexure-II for the list of allied subjects) approved by Osmania University securing not less than 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC / ST / BC / PWD / EWS candidates).
If the results of Post Graduate Degree are declared in the form of Grades/Credits/Cumulative Grade Points/Average in their marks card/Transcripts, such Grades/Points shall be converted into percentage of marks to assess the minimum eligibility criteria.
The candidates have to appear in the Ph.D. Entrance Test in the subject in which they wish to pursue Ph.D. (For e.g. A candidate with M.Com. qualification may pursue Ph.D. in Business Management provided he/she appears and qualifies in the Ph.D. Entrance Test in the subject of Business Management).
Those who are awarded Junior Research Fellowship in a national level test namely UGC/ CSIR/ ICMR / ICAR / DBT/ INSPIRE/ NFSC & ST and not secured admission into Ph.D. programme under category-I and the candidates who qualified under “UGC NET / UGC NET for Ph.D. admission only” are eligible to write Ph.D. Entrance Test – 2026, if they are intended to seek admission under Category-II.
The candidates those who are pursuing Post Graduate degree and whose results are not declared are NOT ELIGIBLE.
Academic Qualifications
- Candidate should have completed a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme, or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme, or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever a grading system is followed. Alternatively, candidates with equivalent qualifications from foreign educational institutions accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority established or incorporated under the law of their home country or any other statutory authority in that country for assessing, accrediting, or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions are eligible.
- Candidates seeking admission after a 4 years / 8 semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever a grading system is followed.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever a grading system is followed, or equivalent qualifications from foreign educational institutions accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority established or incorporated under the law of their home country or any other statutory authority in that country for assessing, accrediting, or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions are eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or an equivalent grade may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/BC/ Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Entrance Test Details
- The Entrance examination is conducted through Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for 100 marks consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s). However weightage shall be considered for 70 marks only.
- The Entrance Test will consist of any 3 or 4 varieties of objective type items such as analogies, classification, matching, comprehension of a research study / experiment / theoretical point of view, etc., with multiple answers besides the usual multiple choice items. The MCQs will be framed only from the syllabus of Entrance test.
- Medium of Entrance test: The medium of Entrance Test will be in English only, except for language subjects.
- Minimum Qualification Marks: The minimum marks for qualifying the Ph.D. Entrance Test shall be 45% in case of Open category candidates, 40% for BC / EWS Candidates and 35% for SC / ST / PWD Candidates.
- Provided that for the selection of candidates based on the overall score (70 + 30) entrance test conducted by the University for 100 marks, a
weightage of 70 % for the entrance test and 30 % for the performance
in the interview / viva-voce shall be given.
