National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur invites applications for PhD Admission for session 2025 (July) in various departments.

Eligibility Criteria

• A Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/Science/ Management/ Humanities and Social Science, Architecture/ Planning or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the institute. Minimum requirement of percentage/CGPA in qualifying degree: Minimum 60% marks or 6.5/10 CGPA/CPI at Master’s degree is essential for admission in Ph.D. program of the Institute.
• However, a relaxation of 5% marks from 60% to 55% and from 6.5/10 CPI (CGPA) to 6.0/10 CPI (CGPA) may be allowed for those candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Differently Abled and those who had obtained their master’s degree prior to 19.09.1991.
• Candidates, who have appeared in their qualifying exam and are awaiting result, can also apply. Their candidature, however, shall be subject to meeting the eligibility criterion at the time of interview. Last date of submission of qualifying degree result (that ascertains the eligibility criterion), if shortlisted for the interview, shall be the date of interview.
• There is no age limit for the applicant.

Selection Process

The selection of candidates for the Ph.D. program is based on their performance in both the objective-type (MCQ based) entrance examination and the interview.

Eligibility for Interview

To be eligible to appear in the interview, candidates must meet the following cut-off marks in the written examination of their respective department:

• For OC/OBC/EWS: A cut-off mark of 50% of the maximum marks scored in the written examination.
• For SC/ST/PH: A cut-off mark of 45% of the maximum marks scored in the written examination.

Only those candidates who score the minimum marks mentioned above (or more) will be eligible to be called for the interview.

Important Note: The Institute reserves the right to limit the number of candidates called for an interview (even if they meet the cut-off marks) based on the number of available seats, category-wise, in each department, and the candidate’s performance in the written examination.

Eligible candidates will then proceed to a personal interview in their respective department.

Merit List Publication

A category-wise merit list will be published based on the candidates’ performance in both the written examination and the interview for each department.

Exemptions from Written Entrance Examination

The following candidates may be exempt from appearing in the written entrance examination and will be called directly for an interview, subject to their eligibility:

• UGC/CSIR (JRF)/NET/Teacher fellowship holders
• M. Phil. qualified candidates

Please Note: UGC Teacher Fellowship holders and M. Phil. candidates will only become eligible for an institute fellowship if they appear and pass both the written entrance test and the interview.

Additionally, eligible candidates who are regular faculty and staff members of NIT Raipur and have successfully completed their probation period are also exempt from the written entrance examination.

All other eligible candidates, after the scrutiny of their applications, must appear in a written entrance examination.
