The School of physical Sciences, NISER invites applications for the following program from the eligible students registered / enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses with Physical Sciences as a major subject in the recognized Universities / Institutions.
Program Overview
The School of Physical Sciences (SPS) at NISER offers a two-month summer internship program (May 22nd to July 21st, 2025). Participants engage in state-of-the-art research projects under SPS faculty supervision, attend seminars, visit research facilities, and participate in night sky observation. A “Project Completion Certificate” will be issued upon successful completion.
Key Program Details
- Duration: May 22nd to July 21st, 2025
- Extension: No extension for longer stay will be considered.
- Prior Participation: Students who have availed this program earlier at NISER will not be considered again.
- PI Vacancies: Applications will only be considered for PIs with advertised vacancies/seats.
- Selection: Selection will be done by the respective PI / Faculty.
- Stipend: A limited number of eligible interns (not receiving other funding) will receive a stipend of ₹5000/- per month and to-and-fro second class sleeper train fare upon successful completion.
- Program Fee: No program fee will be charged.
- Accommodation: Hostel accommodation may be provided on a chargeable basis @ ₹30/- per day, subject to availability.
How to apply
Interested students should apply by filling the Google application form and providing all required information. Details about PIs and research areas are available at: https://www.niser.ac.in/sps/. Applicants must upload a scanned copy of the “Bonafide-Cum-No Objection Certificate” in the prescribed format (page 3), duly issued by a competent authority.
Reference Letters
Applicants may arrange reference letters from two referees to be sent directly by email to summerproject_sps@niser.ac.in on or before April 25, 2025.

General Terms & Conditions
Selected students will be subject to the following conditions and will need to sign an undertaking at the time of joining:
- Data and intellectual property generated during the internship will be owned by NISER.
- Interns have no rights to the data for publications, patents, or other uses without prior NISER approval, except for project reports/theses under faculty supervision.
- Strict confidentiality regarding institute/school/lab/instrumentation data must be maintained.
- Violation of these conditions may lead to disciplinary/legal action by NISER.
- Students must strictly follow the instructions of their faculty PIs.
- Proper discipline and decorum must be maintained on campus. Misconduct may lead to disciplinary action.
- Students must abide by rules and deposit caution money for availing hostel, library, or other NISER facilities.
- No NISER e-mail ID will be created for summer interns.
- Students need to use their own laptops for computational work; limited guest WiFi access may be provided for project-related work only. Misuse of internet may lead to disciplinary action.
- Hostel accommodation may be provided on a chargeable basis, subject to availability.
