National Law University Jodhpur invites online applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme in Law, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management for the academic session 2025-26.

Vacancy

  • Total Number of Ph.D. Seats: 33
  • Ph.D. in Law: 8 seats for UGC-JRF & NET, 7 seats for NLUJ Entrance Test and 2 Seats for Foreign Nationals
  • Ph.D. in Humanities & Social Sciences viz., Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History and English: 4 seats for UGC- JRF & NET, 4 seats for NLUJ Entrance Test Ph.D. in Management: 4 seats for UGC-JRF & NET, 4 seats for NLUJ Entrance Test

Eligibility

  • Ph.D. in Law Eligibility: LL.M. or an equivalent law degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer/ Differently-Abled/Economically Weaker Section).
  • Ph.D. in Humanities & Social Sciences viz., Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History and English Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in relevant Social Sciences or humanities with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer/ Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section).
  • Ph.D. in Management Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in management with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBCs non-creamy layer/ Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section).

Admission Process

For UGC-JRF, NET candidates and Foreign Nationals

  • The candidates with fellowship/ scholarship in UGC-JRF, candidate with valid NET score in category 2 and 3, as notified by the Public Notice No.F.4-1 (UGC-NET Review Committee/ 2024 (NET)/ 140648 on March 27, 2024 and foreign nationals are exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test.
  • JRF- qualified students shall be admitted through evaluation of research proposal followed by interview/ viva-voce. The weightage of each component shall be as follows:
    • a) Research Proposal: 50%
    • b) interview/ viva-voce: 50%
  • The candidates who qualify in category 2 and 3, 70% weightage will be given for NET scores and 30% weightage for the interview/ viva-voce.
  • The candidate should also score a minimum of 50% marks in the evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce to qualify for the final selection,
  • Candidates equal to three times the number of available seats will be shortlisted for defense of Research Proposal before the Doctoral Committee based on the evaluation of Research Proposals by the Research Advisory Committee.

For National Level Entrance Test applicants

The admission process comprises of two stages.

  • The first stage of the two-stage evaluation process is a written entrance test and the second stage is the evaluation of research proposals followed by interview/ viva-voce.
  • The weightage of the two components shall be as follows:
    • Entrance Test: 70%
    • Research and interview/viva-voce: 30%
  • The entrance test paper shall contain 50% of the questions from Research Methodology and the remaining 50% shall be from subject specific i.e., Law, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management.
  • The candidate shall secure a minimum of 50% marks in the first stage i.e., entrance test to qualify for the second stage.
  • The candidate should also secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC/non-creamy layer, Differently-Abled candidates, EWS) in the evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce to qualify for the final selection.
  • Candidates equal to three times the number of available seats will be shortlisted for the second stage, based on the results of the entrance test.
  • A relaxation of 5% will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories
  • Test Center: NLU Jodhpur Ph.D. Entrance Test will be conducted at National Law University Jodhpur, NH-62, Nagour Road, Mandore, Jodhpur – 342304 (Raj.) – INDIA
  • Time of Test-11.00AM to 1.00PM
