BRIC- National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications from eligible candidates for its Ph.D. programme for 2026-27 (Monsoon Session).

Cutting-edge research at BRIC-NII encompasses broad interdisciplinary areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology, and Computational Biology.

Details of intake of Ph.D. students for 2026-27 (Monsoon-Session)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree/4-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution in any area of science and technology, or M.V.Sc., or a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), or an equivalent degree, as per the norms of the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, Haryana.
  • At least a 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination. 5% relaxation in aggregate scores will be applicable for candidates from the reserved categories [(OBC (non-creamy layer; NCL), SC/ST, PwD and EWS (who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs)]. Rounding off the percentage score to the next integral value is not permitted.
  • The candidates must have a valid 5-year doctoral fellowship sponsored by the University Grants Commission (UGC), or the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), or the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), or any other Government-recognised agency. Admission will be contingent upon holding a valid fellowship tenable for a period of 5 years.
  • Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year are eligible to apply, provided they have a valid 5-year fellowship; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining.

Reservation

  • Reservations of seats: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (NCL), 5% for persons with disability (PwD), and 10% for economically weaker sections (EWS) as per statutory norms.
  • Reservation of 5% seats in respect of PwD candidates shall be done horizontally, as per the Government of India Guidelines/Policy.
  • Reservation for EWS: The persons belonging to EWS, who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs, shall get 10% reservation in admission.

Selection Procedure

  • Candidates for the Ph.D. programme at NII will be selected exclusively through a two round online interview process.
  • The offline interviews will be held at on BRICNII campus, New Delhi.
  • The list of candidates for interviews shall be available on the BRIC-NII website and the Notice Board of the Institute on 11th May 2026.
  • Interview will be held in offline mode.
    • One round of interview is scheduled to be held on: 8th to 12th June 2026.
    • Accommodation may be arranged for the candidates from outside Delhi-NCR region for one day at nominal charges to attend BRIC-NII interview.
  • Candidates selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of BRIC-NII in academic affiliation with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, Haryana.
  • The Ph.D. programme will start on 6th July 2026. The allotment of laboratories and thesis supervisors will be made by 10th July 2026, based on the interactions with faculty members in the candidate’s area of interest and mutual preference.
  • All candidates must activate their Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from their respective funding agency i.e. CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT, immediately after joining the Institute (BRICNII).
  • BRIC-NII is a residential campus, and shared hostel accommodation will be provided to all students admitted to the Ph.D. programme.

Application Procedure

  • Candidates should submit their applications through NII online application portal only. The details of the application process are available at http://www.nii.res.in.
  • The name of the candidate and the date of birth should match the corresponding entries in the Secondary School Certificate (10th) or equivalent.
  • Candidates must ensure that the information details furnished in the online application are true and correct. If any discrepancy is observed at any stage, NII reserves the right to cancel the admission.
