NIA PhD Program
Applications are invited from eligible interested candidates for admission into PhD (Ayurveda) programme of the Institute in the prescribed format before due date.
Joint Degree Programme (JDP) or Dual Degree Programme: “Joint PhD Degree Programme (JDP), means a cotutelle programme of research and training carried out by a PhD candidate who is concurrently enrolled in and jointly supervised by a supervisor, at both institutions. On the successful completion of the degree, two separate degree certificates (testamurs) may be issued by the institutionsas per their respective form and format of the degree certificate title, description, signatories etc., including a grade or mark (if that is the practice at either institution) but it must carry a clear statement that the degree is awarded under the JDP between the participating institutes. Academic records/transcripts will reflect enrolment in the joint programme.
NIA and AcSIR have entered into an MoU for a joint PhD degree programme. Joint degree or Dual degree programme is a unique programme through which the scholar will obtain two PhD degrees in same duration. He will be entitled for the stipend as per the NIA rules. AcSIR means the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research. The student is subject to the relevant rules and policies at both institutions throughout the duration of candidature.
Students given admission in the PhD Programme at National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) will have the option to join the Joint PhD Degree Programme (JDP) from NIA and AcSIR (Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research). Preference will be given to the candidates who will opt for Joint PhD Degree Programme.
Home institute and Host Institute: For candidates getting admitted under JDP, NIA will be the Home institute and concerned CSIR Institute will be the Host institute.
Eligibility Criteria
- MD/MS Degree in Ayurveda in concerned subject from an institute recognizes by NCISM.
- PG Degree must be completed at the closing date of application from i.e. 10.04.2025.
- No candidate shall be eligible to register for the PhD Programme if he/she is already registered for a full-time programme in other University/Institution. In such case if a candidate gets selected then he/she will have to leave the ongoing PhD programme in other organization.

- Forms submitted in any other mode will not be considered and summarily rejected
Entrance Examination
- A common entrance examination for PhD Programme including Joint Degree Programme (Cotutelle Programme) of various subjects will be conducted for screening of the applicants.
- Entrance test shall consist of multiple choice questions (MCQ’s). All the candidates except UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/ AYUSH-NET/ CSIR-NET qualified candidates applying for PhD programme shall appear for the Entrance examination conducted by the National Institute of Ayurveda, Deemed to be University (De-Novo). However the foreign nationals will not appear in this programme and a separate procedure through ICCR will be followed.
- The test shall consists of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ’s) covering 60 subject specific questions with the competence of PG standard, 25 questions from Research Methodology and Medical Statistics, 10 questions from the general knowledge regarding AYUSH and 5 questions from basic working knowledge about computers.
- The Duration of the Entrance Examination shall be 90 minutes.
- Each question shall consist of 1 mark for each right answer one mark will be awarded whereas for each wrong answer ¼ (one fourth) mark shall be deducted.
- Entrance test is just for screening and short listing of the candidates and final selection will be done after the Interview.
- On the basis of entrance examination merit will be declared and 3 students from the merit against each seat will be shortlisted for the interview.
- Admission of UGC-NET/JRF/ SLET/AYUH-NET/ CSIR-NET qualified candidates will be through interview. Separate interview as per notified dates will be conducted by National Institute of Ayurveda, Deemed University, Jaipur.
- Entrance examination shall be conducted at National Institute of Ayurveda, Deemed University, Jaipur.
- Syllabus for Entrance Examination
- Question paper shall be based on the syllabi prescribed by NCISM for Research Methodology in MD/MS Ayurveda programme and the subject concerned under which the candidate has applied for PhD Programme.
- Question shall be covering the recent updates in AYUSH and the subject concerned.
- Basic Working knowledge of the Information technology.
Interview
- The shortlisted candidates (maximum 3 candidates for 1 seat) on the basis of merit list will be called for interview.
- The list of shortlisted candidates for interview will be shared after the entrance examination on the website only (www.nia.nic.in) as no separate information will be circulated to individual candidate.
- 50% marks (45% for ST/SC Candidates) in entrance examination are required to be eligible for appearing in the Interview.
- The candidate shortlisted for interview shall present their interest and research proposal through a presentation (Duration 8-10 minutes) before a duly constituted University committee of the respective faculty.
- The interview will also consider following aspects-
- To evaluate the research aptitude of the applicants.
- The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research.
- The research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution/College.
- The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
