PhD Admission Modes

Full-Time/Regular

Students in this category are required to dedicate themselves full-time to the Ph.D. program and are not permitted to hold full-time or part-time employment elsewhere. They may apply for fellowships/assistantships from various funding agencies such as CSIR, ICMR, DST, DBT, ICCR, SERB, ICSSR, SII, and NBHM. The university may also provide scholarships to full-time students who are not receiving any other fellowship, as per the criteria decided by the university from time to time.

The following are considered full-time candidates:

  • Full-time candidates on a self-financing basis.
  • Full-time project fellows appointed in R&D projects carried out at NFSU.
  • Full-time candidates sponsored by academic institutes, industries, or R&D organizations.
  • Full-time candidates with Government/Semi-Government Fellowship awards, including GATE/GPAT/ SET/NET/JRF qualified candidates and similar national/state-level test awardees.
  • International Students: Candidates from any other country with requisite qualifications and a valid passport/visa, or candidates nominated from Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)/Study in India (SII) fellowship awardees.

Part-Time

  • Students granted admission to Ph.D. programs through part-time mode will be permitted to work, provided all conditions stipulated in the Ordinances applicable for their respective batch are fulfilled.
  • The candidate must submit a “No Objection Certificate” from the appropriate authority in their employing organization. This certificate must clearly state that:
  • The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis.
  • Their official duties allow them to devote sufficient time for research.
  • If required, they will be relieved from duty to complete the coursework and other necessary requirements of NFSU.
  • The employer will allow the candidate to use the research infrastructure for their research work, if available.

Professional Category (10% of total intake of respective academic year)

  • Recognized R&D organizations, institutions, government organizations, or industries (both Indian and international) may recommend candidates with at least 10 years of cumulative work experience for admission under the professional category.
  • Admittance for these candidates is contingent upon fulfilling the requisite minimum eligibility criteria. It’s important to note that candidates admitted under this category will not be entitled to any fellowship or assistantship from NFSU. However, they may receive sponsorships from their parent organizations or proceed on a self-finance basis.
  • If a greater number of applications are received in this category, selection will be based on marks obtained during a formal interview conducted by the Ph.D. Evaluation and Admission Committee (PEAC).
