Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU), Tirunelveli invites application for PhD Qualifying Entrance Examination – January 2025 session.

MSU Tirunelveli PhD Qualifying Entrance Examination

  • Qualifying Entrance Examination is mandatory for admission to Ph.D. Programme. This is being conducted twice a year.
  • The Online registration for Ph.D. Programme admission will be permitted twice a year i.e., January and July sessions.
  • Candidates with JRF (fellowship/scholarship), UGC–NET/UGC-CSIRNET/SET/CMRF/UGC-NET (Admission to Ph.D. only)/GATE/CEED qualifications are exempted from Qualifying Entrance Examination. However, they have to register for Interview/Counselling.
  • The eligibility of the Qualifying Entrance Examination is valid for the current session only.
  • Qualifying Entrance Examination Fee is Rs.2,000/- and Interview / Counselling Fee is Rs.3,000/-.
  • Qualifying Entrance Examination result shall be downloaded by the candidates as soon as the results are published in the website.
  • Final Mark Statement of PG and Community Certificate is mandatory for Ph.D. online Registration.
  • Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Centenary Research Fellowship amount of Rs. 5,000/- per month (other than scholars getting fellowship from other funding agencies) will be awarded to the top ranking Ph.D. full time scholars who have joined in the University Departments only based on their Entrance mark (70%) and PG mark (30%).

Subjects for Qualifying Entrance Examination

Candidates can appear for Qualifying Entrance Examinations only in the discipline of their PG. When there is no Research Centre for PG discipline of the candidate, the candidate shall choose anyone relevant subject to their PG Discipline from the given list of subjects. However, if the candidate willing to pursue inter-disciplinary research, they have to appear the subject which he/she wants to enroll.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have passed Master’s Degree through Open University system are not eligible. Candidates who have secured their Master’s Degree with 55% or its equivalent grade of marks (relaxation of 5% of marks in PG Degree is applicable to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled candidates under (10+2+3+2) pattern courses of study shall be eligible for Ph.D. programme.

Selection Process

  • Candidates will be admitted into Ph.D. programme through a common entrance test for each discipline.
  • Entrance Examination will be conducted in the subjects of Master’s Degree.
  • The entrance exam mark – 70% and PG mark – 30% will be considered for preparing merit list as per Tamil Nadu Government reservation policy (refer Ph.D. guidelines in website).
  • The entrance examination will be of objective type for 70 marks with a duration of 2 hours. The date of entrance examination is 27.04.2025. The details of entrance exam will be provided after 24.04.2025 with a hall ticket.
  • The vacancy list of Research Supervisors along with their specialization is to be displayed in the University website.
  • The online portal for University Entrance Exam and Registration portal for candidates those who have cleared the JRF(fellowship / scholarship), UGC–NET/UGC-CSIRNET/SET / CMRF / UGC-NET (Admission to Ph.D. only) / GATE/CEED may be opened simultaneously.
  • The merit list has been prepared at once after completion of Entrance Exam.
