Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed the following are eligible:

  • A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after completing a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s program, from an institution recognized by an Act of Parliament/State Legislature or declared as a deemed-to-be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or an equivalent degree recognized by a foreign university.
  • They must have obtained at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or equivalent grade may be given to candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC-Non-Creamy Layer), Differently-Abled Persons, and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) as per UGC regulations from time to time.
  • Thus, candidates who have completed a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in a point scale (wherever grading system is followed) may be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. program. A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade may be allowed to the above-mentioned reserved categories.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed the M.Phil. course with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed, are also eligible. A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade may be given to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled/EWS candidates.
  • All such candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR JRF/NET (under Category-2 & Category-3), GATE, or any equivalent national-level examination, shall be exempted from the written entrance test conducted by universities. However, they must appear for the interview/viva-voce for selection.

Selection Process

First Stage: Research Entrance Test (RET)

The written examination will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with a syllabus equivalent to the National Eligibility Test (NET) issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Examination Structure:

  • First Paper:
    • Total Questions: 50
    • Total Marks: 100
    • Duration: 1 hour
  • Second Paper:
    • Total Questions: 100 (from the concerned subject)
    • Total Marks: 200
    • Duration: 2 hours
  • Negative Marking:
    • There will be NO Negative Marking in this examination.

Examination Venue:

  • The Entrance Examination will be conducted at the examination centers determined by the University.

Qualifying Marks:

  • General Category Candidates:
    • Must score a minimum of 40% marks in each paper.
    • The overall qualifying score (aggregate of both papers) is 50% of the total marks.
  • Reserved Category Candidates:
    • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Differently Abled (Divyangjan)/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and Visually Impaired candidates will receive a 5% relaxation in the total qualifying marks (aggregate).

Exemption from Research Entrance Test (RET)

The following candidates will be exempted from the RET for admission to PhD:

  • Regular teachers who are teaching in a college affiliated with the university or in the university itself and have successfully completed their probationary period.
  • Foreign candidates (including NRI/PIO/OCI) who fulfill the conditions regarding admission, fees, and other rules and terms established by the Central Government and the University from time to time.
  • All candidates who have been selected for a fellowship by JRF /RGNF /NFSC /NFST /NFOBC /ICAR /ICMR/State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) (Group ‘A’) or other central institutions of the Government of India, and who fulfill the rules and conditions of the fellowship.
  • Candidates who have secured a minimum of 75% marks in the GATE examination. Candidates who have qualified the NET (Under Category-2 and Category-3) examination are also exempted from the written entrance examination. However, the certificates of such candidates will be considered valid only up to the date of validity mentioned on their certificate.
  • Such candidates whose certificate’s validity will last until the date of the release of the research admission notification will also be considered exempt from the entrance examination.
  • Candidates who have qualified the SLET/SET examination from other states will be required to appear for the Research Entrance Test.
  • Officers who have completed a minimum of 15 years of service in a commissioned and equivalent rank in the Navy, Army, or Air Force, and are applying for the Ph.D. (Security and Strategic Studies) program, will be granted an exemption.

Second Stage for Admission in Research

It is mandatory for candidates who have passed the Entrance Test and those who are exempted from the Entrance Test to appear in the Interview/Viva-voce, which is the second stage for admission to Ph.D. The marks obtained by the candidate in the Interview/Viva-voce (PowerPoint Presentation) will be the basis for selection for Ph.D. admission. The process for this is described below:

  • Candidates successful in the Entrance Test and those exempted from it must submit an application form for the second stage to the University and deposit the fee as follows: ₹500/- (Unreserved and Other Backward Classes) and ₹250/- (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Differently Abled candidates).
  • Candidates successful in the Entrance Test and those exempted from it must submit all academic certificates, reservation certificates, and a copy of the research proposal (original copy, and a CD/Pen Drive for the PowerPoint Presentation) to the concerned department by the stipulated date. The presentation of the research proposal on the date fixed by the department is mandatory for all.
  • Candidates will have an Interview/Viva-voce (PowerPoint Presentation) for 30 marks. A merit list of successful candidates will be prepared in descending order based on the marks obtained in the Interview/Viva-voce (PowerPoint Presentation), and the admission process will be completed in the same order.
  • The category-wise merit list of successful candidates from the second stage will be published on the University website.

Application Process

  • Before filling the online application form for the entrance examination, the candidate must carefully read the rules and instructions given on the University website www.mgkvp.ac.in or https://mgkvpphadmission.samarth.edu.in/, and then proceed with the application. The candidate will be responsible for any error in the entries made in the application form.
  • The Code (Category) for which the candidate is applying must be carefully selected as per the instructions. The candidate will be responsible for any error in this.
  • Before filling the online application form, the candidate must have a recent clear photograph (10 KB to 500 KB), signature (10 KB to 500 KB), and scanned copies of all relevant certificates/documents (10 KB to 500 KB) ready. This will be required while filling the online application form.
  • The fee deposited for the entrance examination will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • The Admit Card for the examination can be downloaded from the University website 03 days prior to the examination.
  • It will be mandatory to submit the Migration Certificate at the time of admission and an affidavit in the format prescribed by the University.
  • If there is one vacant seat and two or more candidates have obtained equal marks in the entrance examination, the candidate who has scored higher marks in the qualifying examination will be selected for admission.
  • If any candidate is allowed to appear in the entrance examination due to a clerical error and is subsequently found to be ineligible to sit for the entrance examination, the University reserves the right to cancel their permission to appear in the exam or their candidature for any other reason.
  • It is mandatory to submit the mark sheet and original certificate of passing the qualifying examination at the time of counseling.
  • Amended rules/statutes issued by the University or the State Government from time to time for research will be applicable.
