Eligibility Criteria
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor‘s degree program or a 2-year/4-semester master‘s degree program after a 3-year bachelor‘s degree program or qualifications declared equivalent to the master‘s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor‘s degree program should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
- A relaxation of 5% of 55% marks (2.75%) i.e. from 55% to 52.25% or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/BC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates of the Haryana State only.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. program with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/BC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates of the Haryana State only.
Application Process
- Eligible Candidates have to apply online.
- Read information brochure carefully before applying.
- All relevant documents i.e., marksheet of qualifying examination, proof of age and other documents should be uploaded by the candidate along with online application form.
- A Candidate may apply for admission to as many programs as he/she wants. Separate application form for admission to each additional program shall be required to be filled after paying application fee per program.
- The Candidates are advised to download the submitted form and take a printout to rule out any discrepancy. This print out may be submitted by the candidate, if it is required by the UTD at any stage. He/She may request any amendments through email to reg.admission@mdurohtak.ac.in on or before the last date of submission of application upto 4.00 pm.
Admission Procedure
Admission to Ph.D. program shall be made in the following manner
- Admission of the students who qualify for fellowship/ scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ CEED and similar National Level tests based on an interview.
- Through Entrance Test in subjects where NET examination is not conducted by the UGC.
Admission of NET qualified candidates
The Ph.D. seats will be first offered to the candidates in the following order of preference.
- Category-1 NET qualified candidates (Eligible for Award of JRF, Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admissions) based on their performance in the interview.
- Category-2 NET qualified candidates (Eligible for Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admissions)
- Category-3 NET qualified candidates (Eligible for Ph.D. admissions based on minimum 40% marks in the NET examination or as prescribed by the University, whichever is higher) the maximum of the minimum cut offs prescribed by the UGC/M.D. University, Rohtak.
Note:
- The Category-1 NET qualified candidates shall be admitted into the Ph.D. Programme based on the interview.
- For students who qualify in Categories 2 and 3, 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes. The Ph.D. admission will be based on the combined merit of NET marks and the marks obtained in the interview/viva voce.
Interview
The candidates will be given admission to Ph.D. program based on their performance in the interview by the interview board. At the time of interview, the candidates will be adjudged based on their domain knowledge, research aptitude and research accomplishment before a duly constituted Committee.
The interview shall also consider the following aspects:
- the candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research
- the research work can be suitably undertaken at the University
- the proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
The interview shall be of 30 Marks (15 marks for domain knowledge, 10 marks for research aptitude and 5 marks for research accomplishment).
MDU PhD Entrance Test Details
- In subjects (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Technology, IHTM and Engineering etc.) where NET examination is not conducted by the UGC, an entrance test will be conducted. The syllabus of the Entrance Test will be decided by the concerned University Teaching Department through the Departmental Committee.
- Entrance Test will be of 100 marks of 100 questions and a candidate must secure 50% marks to qualify the same. In case of SC/ST / Differently-abled candidates of Haryana State, a relaxation of 5% of 50 i.e. 2.5% will be allowed. There shall be a deduction of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- Entrance test syllabus shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology and 50% shall be of subject specific.
- For the selection of candidates based on the entrance test a weightage of 70 % for the entrance test and 30 % for the performance in the interview/viva- voce shall be given.

Application Fee
- Rs.1600/-for General Category candidates
- Rs.400/- (for S.C./B.C/Differently abled candidates of Haryana only)
- The S.C/ B.C. candidates belonging to the States other than Haryana will be treated as General Category candidates for all purposes.
- Separate application form for admission to each additional program shall be required to be filled after paying Rs. 400/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/BC/Differently abled candidates of Haryana only) per program.
