Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat invites online application for PhD admission for the academic session 2025-26.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Admission

• Any candidate who has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree in respective subject from a recognized University including foreign candidates (sponsored by their Embassies) and sponsored candidates securing minimum 55% marks (50% for EWS/SC/ST/Differently abled candidates) at the Post-Graduate Degree shall be eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme.
• If the results of Master’s Degree are declared in the form of Grades/Credits/Cumulative Points in their marks cards/transcripts, such Grades/Points shall be converted into percentages to assess the minimum eligibility criteria as per the Grade point norms specified by the respective qualifying examination’s marks statement.
• The candidates fulfilling the above requirements and who qualifies the Tests conducted by statutory bodies such as UGC CSIR / NET / GSET / GATE / GPAT / DBT / ICMR / ICAR / NBHM / CEED / DST-INSPIRE or Ph.D. Entrance Test of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU-PET) in the concerned subject or such other Eligibility Tests of National Level, as recognized equivalent thereto by Vice-Chancellor or has passed M.Phil. Programme shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme.

Educational Qualification

• A One-year / Two Semester Master’s Degree after a Four year / Eight Semester Bachelor’s Degree Programme or a Two year / Four -Semester Master’s Degree after a Three year Bachelor’s Degree or integrated Master’s Degree wherever applicable, or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or a Four year / Eight Semester Bachelor’s Research Degree Programme with minimum 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. OR Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• Candidates holding a Post Graduate Degree from an approved University / Institution or a Course recognized by the UGC / AICTE / DEC and MHRD, Government of India and those with a postgraduate degree or a Professional Degree/Course like CA / CS / ICWA shall be considered to be equivalent to an approved Master’s Degree Programme in the concerned subject. However, the candidate shall have to clear the MSU Ph.D. entrance test in the subject concerned.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / SEBC-OBC (Non-creamy layer) / Differently-abled, EWS and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Government of Gujarat and other statutory bodies, as applicable, from time-to-time. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade) or 75% (or an equivalent grade) in case of candidates with Four (04) year / Eight (08) Semester Bachelor’s Degree with research shall have a relaxation of 5% marks (or an equivalent grade) to the categories mentioned above. However, the relaxation will be based on the qualifying marks only and the grace mark procedures, if any, shall be excluded.
• Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. Programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / SEBC-OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories as per the decision of the Government of Gujarat and other statutory bodies, as applicable from time to time.
• A candidate eligible for admission to a Ph.D. Programme can apply for research in a Related / Conjunct subject(s).

Admission Procedure

• The candidates fulfilling the requirements and who qualifies the Tests conducted by statutory bodies such as UGC CSIR / NET / GSET / GATE / GPAT / DBT / ICMR / ICAR / NBHM / CEED / DST-INSPIRE or Ph.D. Entrance Test of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU-PET) in the concerned subject or such other Eligibility Tests of National Level, as recognized equivalent thereto by Vice-Chancellor or has passed M.Phil. Programme shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme.
• Employees who are in service in any other recognized University / College / Research institute / Industry / Organization etc. in India will be considered for Registration to Ph.D. Degree only if they submit ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the parent organization.
• All the Employees (Permanent and Temporary) of this University shall be required to submit the ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the concerned Head through the Dean of the Faculty / Principal of the College / Head of the Institution to the effect of his / her Research work shall not adversely affect the teaching assignment / administrative assignment of the concerned faculty / college / institution.

• The candidates must read the ‘ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA’ carefully before payment of Examination fee and filling the Online application.
• Filled Application form shall be download from the website along with all enclosures (including online payment Receipt for Application Processing fee) and shall be submitted to the faculties of the concerned Department at The Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara.
