Educational Qualification
- For admission to the Ph.D. program, a candidate must have a Master’s degree from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
- A 5% relaxation in the prescribed educational qualification will be given to the candidates of SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS categories.
- Candidates who have obtained their postgraduate degree in the subject for which they are applying for Ph.D. will be eligible. Candidates who have a postgraduate degree in an allied (related) subject may also be eligible for Ph.D. admission in the subject concerned as per Appendix-11.
MCBU Doctoral Entrance Test (DET) 2025-26
- The DET will be conducted at the university level. The duration for this will be a total of 2 hours.
- The question paper will be of 100 marks and will consist of a total of 100 multiple-choice questions (Objective Type Questions).
- Part-A: Research Aptitude (50 Objective Type Questions) – This section will be based on Research Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness of Computer Knowledge. Each question will carry one mark.
- Part-B: Subject Specific (50 Objective Type Questions) – This section will be based on the postgraduate level syllabus of the concerned subject. Each question will carry one mark.
- To pass the DET, candidates will have to obtain the following minimum marks:
- Unreserved/General Category candidates: 50 percent
- Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD): 45 percent
- There will be no negative marking in the DET examination.
- Candidates who pass the DET will be called for an interview based on the merit list prepared.
- The list of successful candidates of the DET will be published on the website of the concerned university.
- No travel allowance will be payable for appearing in the DET.
Exemptions
The following candidates will be exempted from the DET:
- UGC NET with JRF
- UGC CSIR NET with JRF
- GATE, CEED or similar National Level Exams with Fellowship
- UGC NET without JRF
- UGC NET Eligible for Admission to Ph.D.
- Phil with Course work
Note: Candidates who have obtained exemption will also have to apply online and pay the fee as per the admission process for the Ph.D. Entrance Test (DET). Such candidates will directly appear for the interview.
Interview Process
- Candidates who have passed the DET and those exempted from the DET will have to be present for the interview at the date, time, and place decided by the University.
- The interview will be of 100 marks, in which the following abilities of the candidates will be evaluated:
- Complete understanding of the proposed research.
- Capability of conducting research work at the research center.
- Originality/Addition of new knowledge in the proposed research area.
- The evaluation in the interview will be based on the following parameters:
- Research Plan: 25 marks
- Research Potential / Aptitude: 25 marks
- Communication Skills: 25 marks
- Subject Knowledge in the respective area of research: 25 marks
- For admission to the Ph.D. program, the final merit/cut-off will be determined as follows:
- For candidates appearing for the interview through the written examination, 70% of the marks obtained in the written examination and 30% of the marks obtained in the interview will be considered for the final merit.
- For candidates exempted from the written examination and appearing directly for the interview, 100% of the marks obtained in the interview will be considered for the final merit/cut-off.
- The list of successful candidates in the interview will be displayed on the University website.
- No travel allowance will be payable for appearing in the interview.
- Important: Candidates must bring all their original documents for verification at the time of the interview.
- Candidates must submit two sets of self-attested photocopies of all their documents.
- Employed candidates appearing for the interview must also bring a No Objection Certificate/Consent Letter from their employer.
Part-Time PhD Program
- Only employed candidates are eligible for the Part-Time Ph.D. program. The admission process, educational qualification, and other guidelines for such applicants will be the same as for regular applicants.
- Such applicants will also have to apply online as per the DET determined admission process and appear/be present for the DET and interview.
- Applicants will have to submit permission/No Objection Certificate from their employer and a letter stating that the applicant will be granted the necessary leave for coursework and Ph.D. work at the time of the interview.
- For students of the Part-Time Ph.D. program, attendance as required under Ph.D. Ordinance 11, which is based on the minimum standards 2016 prescribed by the University Grants Commission for Ph.D./M.Phil. and its amendments in supersession by the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission 2022, will be mandatory.
