Eligibility

The candidates who have completed the following are eligible to seek admission to a Ph.D. programme:

  • A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to OSC/DSC/BC (Block A&B) (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of Haryana.
  • Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme Honors with Research programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to OSC/DSC/BC (Block A&B) (noncreamy layer)/ Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of Haryana.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to OSC/DSC/BC (Block A&B) (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of Haryana.
  • Provided further that a candidate seeking admission on a topic in Classical Indian Philosophy involving some particular Philosophical text in Sanskrit, shall also be required to have passed a Diploma course in Sanskrit if the candidate did not have Sanskrit at B.A. or M.A. Level.
  • For calculating percentage of marks for Master’s Degree in the case of Education and Library & Information Science, percentage marks obtained in B.Ed. + M.Ed. (when each is a one year course) and B.Lib.Sc. + M.Lib.Sc. (when each is a one year course) shall be halved.
  • In addition to above, two years’ experience, as a full time employee, is required for admission to Part Time Ph.D. programme.
  • It will be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure his/her eligibility and fulfillment of such other condition(s) as may be prescribed for admission in the rules and regulations of the University. The admission to Ph.D. programme will be done in order of merit and subject to availability of seat(s) and expert(s) for guidance/supervision in the area of research. Before submission of Application Form, the candidate is required to ascertain these facts from the concerned Department/Institute. Merely qualifying the entrance test or having qualified under exempted category will not ipso-facto entitle a candidate to get himself/herself enrolled for Ph.D. course in the concerned Department/Institute.
  • The candidate(s) pursuing M.Phil. Course, if otherwise eligible, may submit his/her application form for admission to Ph.D. course. The admission of candidate shall be considered provisionally if his/her M.Phil. Dissertation has been got evaluated and viva- voce is pending. His/her case for Ph.D. registration will be recommended to the PGBOS of the concerned Department/Institute after viva-voce examination and successful completion of M.Phil. course .

Admission Procedure

The admission to Ph.D. programme will be given in the following ways:

  • Based on valid NET/GATE/GPAT
  • Based on entrance test in the subjects (Pharmacy/ Mechanical Engg./ Electrical Engg./ Instrumentation Engg./ Hotel Management etc.) where UGC does not conduct NET.
  • Admission for Part Time Ph.D. programme

Admission based on Valid NET/GATE/GPAT/Entrance Test (where applicable):

The admission in Ph.D. programme will be given to the candidates in following order of preference:

  1. NET qualified (Category-1) in the Main subject (valid fellowship period)
  2. NET qualified (Category-1) in the Allied subject (valid fellowship period)
  3. DST Inspire Fellows in the Main subject (with validity period)
  4. DST Inspire Fellows in the Allied subject (with validity period)
  5. NET qualified (Category-2 or Category-3) in the Main subject (valid period)
  6. NET qualified (Category-2 or Category-3) in the Allied subject (valid period)
  7. Valid GATE/GPAT in the Main subject
  8. Valid GATE/GPAT in the Allied subject
  9. On the basis of entrance test in the subjects (Pharmacy/ Mechanical Engg./ Electrical Engg./Instrumentation Engg./ Hotel Management etc.) where UGC does not conduct NET.

The merit list for admission in Ph.D. programme shall be prepared on the basis of merit points as follows:

  • For the Candidates fall under Sr. No. (1) to (6) above
    • Merit point = (%age Marks in Qualifying Master’s Degree × 50/100) + (%age Marks in NET × 50/100) + weightage(s)
  • For the Candidates fall under Sr. No. (7) to (8) above
    • Merit point = % marks in GATE/GPAT Score + weightage(s)
  • For the Candidates fall under Sr. No. (9)
    • Merit point = (%age Marks in Qualifying Master’s Degree × 50/100) + (%age Marks in Entrance Test × 50/100) + weightage(s)
