Eligibility
- Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program should have a Master’s degree in the concerned subject or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved. recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions. The qualified CA/CS/ICWA will be eligible for degree in Commerce and Management stream.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September. 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above will be permissible only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. - A candidate whose M.Phil. Dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University. Lucknow.
- In case of a foreign national, whether self-financing or scholarship holder who is admitted through the Embassy/ High Commission of his/her country or admitted under a MoU with the foreign institutions shall be exempted from Research Entrance Test (RET) and interview/viva voce.
- Admission to the Ph.D. Programme will be allowed in those subjects in which regular/ SFS* (Minutes of 15th AC) Programmes are being offered by the University. The degree would be awarded in the subjects in whom the candidate is admitted. Interdisciplinary research may be encouraged by respective departments by taking Co-Supervisors from other relevant disciplines.
- The full-time research scholar shall be the regular students of the University. However. Regular Teachers of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University will be allowed to receive salary payment from their parent institutions. They will be required to take leave for at least a period of six months and have to remain present for the entire period of course works. For the remaining period of the Programme their attendance at their respective Departments will be accepted.
Admission Process
Full-Time Ph.D. Programme
- As per Ph.D. Ordinance2023 (15 Amendment-2024) the admission will be given on the basis of entrance test and interview.
- For Candidates who qualify under NET category 2 (eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.) and Category 3 (admission to Ph.D. only) will be determined on 70% weightage for NICE test scores and 30% for the interview performance. Candidates admission will be based on the combined merit of NET marks and interview/viva voce scores.
- The NET marks obtained by candidates in categories 2 and 3 will be valid for one year for Ph.D. admission.
- Those candidates who do not fall in the category 2 and 3 will have to appear in the written test conducted by the University. Candidates who qualify the written test will have to appear in Interview/viva-voce.
- Students with valid fellowship/Scholarship (Junior Research Fellowship) in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE and similar National level tests shall be exempted from the entrance test and admitted directly on the basis of interview/viva-voce.
- Regular and working teachers employed in Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University shall be exempted from the written test and admitted directly on the basis of interview/viva-voce.
- All candidates desirous of taking admission to the Ph.D. programs of the University have to appear and qualify the Research Entrance Test-2024 (RET) conducted by the university.
- A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Differently-Abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Only the candidates who qualify the RET and appear for the interview, will be considered for the final merit.
- Candidates who qualify the RET but do not appear for the interview, will not be considered for the final merit.
- The marks of qualified candidates and non-qualified candidates will be displayed only after the declaration of the final merit list.
Part-Time Ph.D. Programme
- PhD programmes through Part-Time mode will be permitted, provided all the conditions stipulated in UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for award of Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2022, including Entrance Test and completion of course work as mentioned in Ph.D. Ordinance-2023 (1 ^ n) Amendent-2024) of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University are fulfilled.
- Part-Time Ph.D. will be allowed provided all the conditions mentioned in the Ph.D. Ordinance are met and applicable as and where required.
- A candidate shall be considered as a Part-Time research scholar if he/she is employed and has submitted an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the head of the institution/organization where he/she is employed.
- Part-Time Ph.D. scholar will not be eligible for any Fellowship/Scholarship from any source. However, the Teacher of this university admitted in Part-Time Ph.D. programme may continue to receive salary.
- The time duration of Part-Time Ph.D. programme shall be a minimum of three (3) years and maximum of Six (6) years. A further extension of two (2) years will be at the sole discretion of the Vice Chancellor.
- A Teacher serving in this University will be eligible to enroll for Ph.D. programme under Part-Time mode after completion of probation period or at least one year of service.
- Other than the teacher of this University, the candidate is required to have at least three years of continuous service experience in Recognized Educational Institutions, Union Government, State Government(s). Armed Forces, PSUs or Corporations listed in BSE or NSE.
- The University shall obtain a “No Objection Certificate” through the candidates for a Part-Time Ph.D. programme from the appropriate authority in the organization where the candidate is employed, clearly stating that:
- The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a Part-Time basis.
- His/her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for research.
- If required, he/she will be relieved from the duty to complete the course work.
- The selection of the candidates for the Part-Time Ph.D. programme shall be based on same criteria as mentioned for Full-Time Mode.
Admission of International Students in Ph.D. Programme
- Each supervisor can guide up to two international research scholars on a supernumerary basis over and above the permitted number of Ph.D. scholars.
- Such students must submit application directly to the Vice Chancellor/Registrar after consultation with the faculty member (Supervisor) with whom they wish to work.
- Except for the waiver in admission to the Ph.D. programme, rest of the conditions will remain same as in the ordinance.
Research Entrance Test (RET-2025)
- A Research Entrance Test (RET-2025) would be conducted by the University, for all the candidates applying for the full-time Ph.D. program.
- The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.
- There will be 70 questions in all. 35 questions would be for research methodology and 35 would be subject specific. (MCQs)
- The duration of written test will be of 90 minutes.
- There will be no negative marking in the entrance test.
Test Papers
- Paper 1 Research Methodology: 35 Multiple Choice Questions of 1 mark each based on the Methodology to be answered in 45 minutes. 35 MCQs
- Paper II Subject Specific: 35 Multiple Choice Subject Specific Questions of 1 mark each to be answered in 45 minutes. The questions will be based on the syllabus prescribed by UGC/University for Post Graduate Programs 35 MCQs.

Interview
- All the candidates who secure a minimum of 50% marks in the RET will be called for the interview.
- Candidates have to report for interview at the stipulated date and time which will be declared on the University website. No individual letter will be issued for this purpose.
- The interview will be of 30 marks in the final merit.
Merit List
The break-up of mark will be as follows:
- Entrance Test Marks: 70
- Interview Marks: 30
If two or more candidates have secured equal marks in the Merit Index, then the rank for admission will be determined as follow:
- If the Merit Index of candidates is same, first preference will be given to the candidate who has secured higher marks in written test.
- If the marks secured in the written test are same and PG marks are also same, first preference will be given to the candidate whose date of birth falls earlier.
