Modes of PhD Programme
- A candidate may register either full-time or part-time Ph.D. programme.
- Full-time Ph.D. programme shall be undertaken by an eligible candidate who will work on regular basis in the department till the submission of thesis.
- Part time Ph.D. programme shall be undertaken by In-Service (Regular Full time service) /professional candidates. The part-time Ph.D candidates who are employed on full-time basis in which he/she has reported has to submit
- (i) NOC from the Head of the Institution/Organization,
- (ii) Service Certificate issued by the Employer; and
- (iii) Letter of Undertaking by the candidate at the time of provisional registration for Ph.D.
- Only full-time employee of an Institution/Organization is allowed to undertake part-time Ph.D Programme.
- A teacher fellow (On QIP/FIP Programme) shall work on a regular basis in the Department/Research Centre during the period of Fellowship.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any candidate who has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree from a recognized university including foreign candidates (sponsored by their Embassies) and sponsored candidates securing minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Differently-abled candidates) at the Post-Graduate Degree shall be eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme.
- If the results of Master’s Degree are declared in the form of Grades/Credits/ Cumulative Points in their markscards/transcripts, such Grades/Points shall be converted into percentages to assess the minimum eligibility criteria as per the Grade point norms specified by the respective qualifying examination’s marks statement.
Selection Process
All the applicants possessing the Eligibility at their PG Degree as specified in Regulations shall appear for Entrance Test.
Entrance Exemption
- Government sponsored foreign candidates,
- Candidates who have cleared UGC/UGC-CSIR JRF/NET/SLET (Karnataka)/GATE/GRE/M.Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test) shall be exempted from Entrance Test.
Candidates who have cleared UGC/UGC-CSIR JRF/NET/SLET (Karnataka)/ GATE/GRE/M.Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test) willing to appear for the Entrance test shall apply separately by paying prescribed fees.
Entrance Test
- Maximum Marks for Entrance Test: 100 marks.
- Nature of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
- Syllabus for Entrance Test: Research Methodology and Cognate/Core subjects of the P.G. Department conducting Entrance Test.
- Number of Questions: 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark: 50% of the questions shall be from Research Methodology and the remaining 50% from cognate/core subjects.
- The 50 Questions on Research Methodology shall consist of data interpretation, language comprehension and test of reasoning. The other 50 Questions shall be based on the current PG syllabus of cognate/core subjects.
- Duration of Entrance Test: 120 minutes.
- Venue of Entrance Test: Exam Section and Dr. R.C. Hiremath Institute of Kannada Studies, K.U. Dharwad.
Preparation of Merit List
- The Government sponsored foreign candidates, candidates who have cleared UGC-JRF/UGC-CSIR-JRF/GATE/GRE/NET/SLET(Karnataka)/ M.Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test) shall be placed first in the Consolidated Merit List based on their percentage of marks secured by them at their qualifying PG examination.
- After the Entrance Test, the merit list of the candidates shall be prepared as per merit on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance test and marks obtained in the qualifying examination in the ratio of 50:50. However, the candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Differently abled Candidates) in the Entrance Test.
- The eligible Candidates as per the Merit List shall be considered for the present declared vacancies as notified.
- The candidates as per merit list shall attend Interview in respective PG Departments. Attending the Interview is mandatory. Eligibility to appear for the interview shall not be considered as confirmation of registration for Ph.D programme.
- The Selection list shall be announced by the concerned department on its notice board and the selected candidates shall pay required fees within 7 working days.
- The department shall announce a waiting list for Ph.D seat selection.
Application Process
- Application form shall be downloaded from the website www.kud.ac.in and the duly filled-in application form, along with all enclosures (including online payment challan for Application Processing fee) shall be submitted to the Chairperson of the concerned PG Department at Karnatak University, Dharwad.
- Applications without valid certificates will not be considered and incomplete applications are liable to be rejected.
- Candidates from other universities, if selected, shall submit Eligibility Certificate issued by the Academic Section, Karnatak University, Dharwad at the time of admission, The Eligibility Certificates shall be obtained by submitting the required documents and by paying required fees.
