Subject wise Intake of Ph.D Programmes

Eligibility Criteria

Subject to the conditions prescribed from time to time under the rules, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:

  • Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree of the recognised University, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to (SC/ST/VJA/ NT-B/ NT-C/NT-D/OBC/SEBC* /EWS) (non creamy layer if applicable) and/or Differently-abled candidates as per policies of the Government prescribed from time to time.) A candidate seeking admission after 4-year/8Semester bachelor’s degree program as per NEP 2020 should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to (SC/ST/VJA/ NT-B/NT-C/NT-D/ OBC/SEBC*/ EWS) (non creamy layer if applicable) and/or Differently-abled candidates as per policies of the Government prescribed from time to time.)
  • Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work (Theory Examination) of any approved, recognized institute/university with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) shall be eligible to PET exam provided that the candidate joins such programme without any break.
  • Candidates who have already Appearing for Last Semester’s examination of the PG Programme (M.A., M.Sc., M. Com etc) can also apply for Entrance Test for Post Graduate Programme/s. However, they must submit a copy of their Final Statement of Marks of qualifying examination at the time of admission otherwise they will not be eligible for admission.

*SEBC Reservation is subject to the final outcome at Writ Petition No. 3468/2024 filed in the Hon’ble Mumbai High Court.

NET Qualified Candidates

Candidates possessing NET qualification with Eligibility as JRF/ NET, Appointment as Assistant Professor/admission to Ph.D are eligible for admission, without appearing for PET examination as per UGC Circular No. F. 4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024 (NET)/140648 dated 28 March, 2024/8 chaitra 1946. (All above mentioned candidates need to apply through proper channel, should have a validity of obtained score, and will be admitted based on interview merit.).

Inspire Scholars

University/institute approved Inspire Scholars are eligible for admission without appearing for PET examination. (Need to apply through proper channel and will be admitted based on interview merit).

Additional Marks

The candidates with following qualifications shall be assigned with the additional marks shown against the qualification. However, the total marks shall not exceed seven. These marks shall be added to the total score of entrance test of respective candidate. The order of merit for admission to Ph.D. shall be decided on the basis of the total sum.

Selection Process

Candidate shall be admitted to Ph.D. program by a two-stage process through: –

  • Entrance Examination, which shall be a qualifying test. The entrance Examination will be of 100 marks with multiple choice type questions.
  • Personal Interview of candidates qualifying the entrance examination /candidates exempted from the Entrance Examination to be conducted as per procedure prescribed.
  • Entrance Test Paper will have 2 parts: Research Methodology (25 Questions) and Subject Specific (25 Questions)
  • All questions shall be with multiple options and each correct answer carries 2 Marks. No negative marking system.
  • Duration of Entrance Exam: 1 Hrs and 30 Minutes (90 min.)
  • Centre for Entrance Examination : Satara (Maharashtra) 415001
  • Standard of minimum passing:
    • General Category : 50 % Marks
    • Reserved Category : 45 % Marks.
  • For selection of a candidate, a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in interview/viva-voce shall be given.
  • Merit list will be declared purely on entrance examination marks only. If the entrance examination marks are the same, the CGPA of the previous year will be considered.

  • A candidate is allowed to apply for more than one Programme. However, he/she will have to apply separately for each Programme for Entrance along with required fees.
