PhD Education: 25 Seats

Eligibility Criteria

  • A 1-year/2- semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55 % marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. A relaxation of 5 % marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5 % marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55 % marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • 5% Relaxation in qualifying examination for eligibility criteria for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates as per norms of Government of Gujarat.

Admission Process

Applications received for / Ph.D. programmes shall be classified into two categories:

Category A – Eligible candidates for Entrance Test of Ph.D. Programmes:

  • The eligible candidate shall have to appear for an i3T conducted by the Indian Institute of Teacher Education.

Category B – Candidates exempted from the entrance test of the Ph.D.:

  • Those candidates who have cleared; UGC-NET/GSET/JRF in Education will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test – i3T. However, they must have to apply and get registered online along with the fees.
    • Those who have cleared entrance exam by aggregate 50% marks and those exempted from entrance examination will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI). All the successful candidates have to appear before RDC for GDPI. Candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before RDC.
    • On the basis of the performance in GDPI candidates will be evaluated and a merit list will be prepared. For selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% of the higher of the score in Entrance Test or score in UGC-Net/GSLET/GSET and 30% to the performance in the GDPI shall be given.
    • The candidate who is exempted from appearing in Entrance Test shall have the right to appear in GDPI. In case, the candidate wishes to improve the score of merit, he/she can opt for appearing in IITE Entrance Test. The higher the score either in UGC-Net/GSLET/GSET or IITE Entrance Test shall be considered for calculating merit.

i3T – Integrated Test for Teacher Trainee:

All the eligible candidate registered on IITE portal for i3T must appear in ONLINE PROCTOR BASED Test.

The i3T will be based on the topics mentioned below.

  • Paper 1 (60 Marks)
    • Section A: Research Methodology (30 Marks)
    • Section B: Reasoning & Comprehension Skills (30 Marks)
  • Paper 2 (60 Marks)
    • Education subjects up to PG Level (45 Marks)
    • Current affairs in Education (15 Marks)

Mode of test will be online proctor based test and candidate will be able to attend this test from his place with any electronic gadgets like mobile, tablet, PC or laptop and internet connection. University may change mode of examination, if needed.

The language of test item will be in Gujarati & English.

Duration of the i3T for Ph.D. programmes will be 90 minutes. Total marks is 120.

To qualify in the i3T for Ph.D. programme, the candidate will have to secure minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in Paper 1 and Paper 2. In the Entrance Test (05% relaxation for candidates from SC/ST/SEBC/ differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories [as per the norms notified by UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2022]

  • IITE will conduct the i3T exam as per scheduled date and time.
  • i3T Test will be online Procter based, so candidate will be able to attend the test from their place.
  • IITE will prepare merit lists of the students on the basis on marks obtained in i3T.
  • Based on the merit list, the student will have to appear in GDPI at IITE on scheduled date and time.
  • On the basis of score of i3T and GDPI, University will publish Provisional Admission List. Students in this list will have to confirm their admission by paying prescribed fees. University/ College will confirm and enroll the student.
