Place of Research Work

The selected candidate will carry out his/her research work either at IIG Headquarters in Navi Mumbai or any one of the regional centres of IIG namely EGRL, Tirunelveli; KSKGRL, Prayagraj; NEGRL, Shillong; or magnetic observatory

Eligibility

  • M.Sc./M.Sc.(Tech.) in the disciplines of Physics/Geophysics/ Space Physics/Atmospheric Science/ Applied Geology/Applied Mathematics/Applied Geophysics/Marine Geophysics and allied subjects with a minimum of 60% or equivalent CGPA marks in M.Sc. / M.Sc.(Tech) and Physics or Mathematics as a subject in B.Sc.
  • Those appearing for Master’s degree final year examination in the current year and expecting results before August 2025 may also apply.
  • On production of valid certificate issued by competent authority a relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be allowed to those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as per the notification issued by UGC from time to time.

27 years as on 1 July, 2025

Selection Criteria

  • Candidates who are in possession of a valid GATE/NET/INSPIRE(JRF) certificate(s) in above mentioned subjects may be called for the interview directly. Candidates who have not qualified any of the above tests will have to appear for an entrance exam conducted by IIG followed by the interview at IIG, Navi Mumbai.
  • Minimum qualifying marks for the entrance exam will be 50%.
  • On production of valid certificate issued by the competent authority a relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be allowed to those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ PwBD/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as per the notification issued by UGC from time to time.
  • Reservation policy of Government of India is followed.
  • During selection process 70% weightage will be given for exam and 30% for the interview.
  • Entrance exam will consist of 50% subject specific questions and 50% general questions including basic research methodology relevant to the research areas carried out at IIG.

Travel Assistance

Second class train fare by the shortest route will be paid to the outstation candidates, subject to the submission of photo copy of the valid confirmed/RAC travel ticket, as per the existing policy of IIG.
