IITRAM PhD Admission 2025-26 (Autumn Semester)

Institute of Infrastructure, Technology Research and Management (IITRAM), Ahmedabad, Gujarat invites online application for PhD admission for the academic session 2025-26 (Autumn Semester).

Categories of PhD Admission

(a) Regular Ph.D. Programme is offered as under:

• Sponsored Candidate:
  • Persons who possess the minimum prescribed qualifications and are in service in any of the following establishments with Minimum basic qualification shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D program as sponsored candidates.
  • No financial assistance will be provided by the Institute under this category.
• Self – Financial Candidate:
  • No financial Assistance provided, However Teaching Assistantship Rs. 12,000 PM may be provided subject to availability of funds and requirement of Departments.
• Fellowship Awardee:
  • Regular With Institute Assistantship:
    • Eligible candidates may receive Institute Assistantship: Rs. 25,000 + HRA (if hostel accommodation is not provided).
    • Subject to fund availability and departmental requirements (1 Basic Sciences and 1 HSS).
  • Individual Fellowship:
    • Candidates may apply for individual fellowships from funding agencies (CSIR/UGC/DST/DBT/ICMR, etc.).
    • Candidates with individual fellowships are not entitled to Institute Research Assistantship.
• Research Assistantship through project:
  • Research fellows appointed in sanctioned government-funded projects can apply to the Ph.D. program.

(b) Part-time Ph.D. Programme is offered under the categories of:

• University / Institutes / College Teacher
• Institute Staff at IITRAM (IS)
• External working in an organization / industry with R&D facility

Eligibility Criteria

Engineering / Technology:

• A Master’s degree in a relevant subject of Engineering / Technology with First Class* (55%** marks for SC/ST) and a Bachelor’s degree in relevant subjects of Engineering / Technology with First Class* (55%** marks for SC/ST).
• OR B.Tech. with high CPI.

Basic Sciences:

• Master’s degree in relevant subjects of Science / Engineering with First class* (55%** marks for SC/ST) and Bachelor’s degree in relevant subjects of Science / Engineering with First class* (55%** marks for SC/ST).

Humanities and Social Sciences:

• M.A. or equivalent degree in Humanities and Social Sciences subjects with 55% marks for the general category (50% for SC/ST).
• OR Master’s degree in Commerce with 55% marks for the general category (50% for SC/ST).
• OR M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Science, with First Class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST).
• OR Candidate with two years of PGDM from recognized institutions will be considered for the research areas consistent with their academic background.

Note:

• For determining First Class, the student must fulfill one of the following conditions:
  1. A degree from a university explicitly stating First Class.
  2. A minimum of 60% marks in the final year.
  3. A minimum of 60% aggregate of all years, or as specified by the university.
  4. A CPI of 6 (out of 10) or proportional requirements when scales are other than 10.
• For determining 55%** / 50%***, the student must fulfill one of the following conditions:
  1. A minimum of 55% / 50% in the final year.
  2. A minimum of 55% / 50% aggregate of all years, or as specified by the university.
  3. A CPI of 5.5 (out of 10) / 5 (out of 10) or proportional requirements when scales are other than 10.

Selection Process

• Eligible candidates will be called for a written test and interview. The cutoff marks for the interview in the written test are as follows:
  • Open category Candidates – 50%
  • SC / ST Candidates – 40%
• The syllabus of the written test shall consist of 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific content. The Entrance Test will be conducted at IITRAM. The Screen and Shortlisting Committee will shortlist candidates for the written test. Merely satisfying the eligibility criteria does not guarantee being called for a written test or interview.
• However, individual fellowship category holders, i.e., UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC – CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / GATE etc., may be considered exempt from the written test based on the recommendation of the Department Committee.
• Candidates shortlisted for the Interview are required to give a brief presentation on any topic of their research interest.
• No TA / DA will be provided to candidates attending the written test.
