Minimum Eligibility Criterion

For admission in PhD

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with a valid GATE score.
  • OR Master’s or equivalent degree in Science (or allied subjects) with a valid GATE score.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s or equivalent degree in Science with experience of two years or more in a reputed R&D Organization with a proven research record.
  • OR B.Tech. /B.E./ B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) / any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application / any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with CGPA/CPI of at least 7.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.
  • OR Master’s or equivalent degree in Engineering/Technology.

For admission in M.Tech. (Research)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with a valid GATE score.
  • OR Master’s or equivalent degree in Science (or allied subjects) with a valid GATE score.
  • OR B.Tech. /B.E./B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) / any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application / any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with CGPA/CPI of at least 7.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.

For admission in Dual Degree (M.Tech + Ph.D)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with a valid GATE score.
  • OR Master’s or equivalent degree in Science (or allied subjects) with a valid GATE score.
  • OR B.Tech. /B.E./ B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) / any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application / any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with CGPA/CPI of at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.

Instructions/Notes

  • GATE/National-level exam exemption: Candidates applying under self-sponsored or part-time modes
  • are exempted from GATE or other national-level exam requirements. However, these candidates will not be eligible for an institute scholarship during the program.
  • Program preference: The first choice indicated on the application portal will be considered for processing. Candidates are therefore advised to select their preferred discipline carefully. Those interested in multiple disciplines or programs should submit separate applications for each.
  • Mode of Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an offline (in-person) interview. They will need to make their own arrangements for travel, accommodation, and boarding.
  • Reservation policy: Reservation norms will follow the Government of India rules. IIT Mandi reserves the right to admit or not admit students for any of the advertised areas.
  • Application per specialization: For each specialization and program, candidates must submit a separate application along with the applicable fee.
  • Accuracy of information: All details provided in the online application will be treated as final. Incomplete applications or those missing required documents will be summarily rejected.
  • Sponsored projects: For candidates admitted under sponsored project positions, the fellowship duration will be aligned with the tenure of the respective project.
  • Encouragement for reserved categories: Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and EWS categories are strongly encouraged to apply to fill vacant seats in the mentioned programs.
