IIT Mandi School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) PhD Admission 2026 (Jan)

School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) invites eligible candidates for Walk-in interviews for admission to the PhD programme in the EVEN semester commencing from January 2026 at IIT Mandi under Regular Full-Time mode in all broad areas of chemistry

Minimum Eligibility

1. M.Tech or equivalent degree in chemical engineering/chemical technology/other relevant disciplines or BS-MS/M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences (all branches) or Physics or relevant disciplines.
2. B.Tech/B.E./B.S. or equivalent degree in chemical engineering/chemical technology, Chemistry or Chemical Sciences (all branches) or Physics or other relevant disciplines.
3. For BS-MS/M.Sc./ B.Tech/B.E./B.S.: Qualified at least one national level examination (CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF/NET-LS/NET-PhD Valid GATE qualification/ DST-INSPIRE) or any other equivalent national level examination or, Having minimum of TWO years of professional experience (acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought).
4. For candidates applying under the self-sponsored category, criteria number 3 will not be applicable.

Exemptions from mandatory requirements of valid GATE qualification or National Level examination:

• B. Tech/B.E./B.S. or equivalent degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute)/ any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application/ any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with a CGPA/CPI of at least 7.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent (for General/EWS categories) and a CGPA/CPI of at least 7.0 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent (for OBC-NCL category) and a CGPA/CPI of at least 6.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent (for SC/ST/PWD categories).
• BS-MS/M.Sc. or equivalent degree from IITs, IISERs, IISc, IIMs/ any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application with a CGPA/CPI of at least 7.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent (for General/EWS categories) and a CGPA/CPI of at least 7.0 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent (for OBC-NCL category) and a CGPA/CPI of at least 6.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent (for SC/ST/PWD categories).
• NIRF Ranking (within the top 100) should be in the overall category granted for the year during which admission is sought.

Selection Process

Mode of Interview

• The interviews will be conducted in offline (in person) mode. Accommodation (1-2 nights) for candidates appearing for the interviews may be provided in campus subject to requirement and availability.

Important Notes

• Candidates must send a prior confirmation of participation in the interviews to the SCS office via email (scsoffice1@iitmandi.ac.in; scsoffice@iitmandi.ac.in) along with mentioning their areas of research interests (organic/inorganic/physical/materials), by 18th November 2025, 5 PM.
• Candidates who will not send prior confirmation by the stipulated deadline, may not be considered for campus accommodation.
• Candidates not meeting the above-mentioned minimum eligibility criteria will NOT be interviewed neither will they be provided any campus accommodation.
• Employed candidates seeking admission to PhD programme must submit a “No Objection Certificate” from their current employer at the time of the interview.
• Candidates who have graduated with their qualifying degree in 2025 must present their original qualifying degree certificate or at least a provisional certificate/marksheet at the time of admission.
• Reservation policies as per prevailing GOI rules will be followed.
• IIT Mandi reserves the right to admit / not admit for any of the advertised areas and apply appropriate criteria for shortlisting.
• The decision of the competent authority in all matters relating to the eligibility of the candidate, written test/interview and admission would be final and binding on all the candidates. In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur in the process of admission, the decision of the Institute shall be final.
