The Department of Physics at IIT Indore invites applications for admission to its Ph.D. Program for 2026 (Sept).

Invitation of admission to the Ph.D. Program in the following research areas:
- Condensed Matter Physics (Experimental)
- Condensed Matter Physics (Theory)
- Condensed Matter Physics (Theory and Experimental)
- High Energy Physics (Experimental)
- High Energy Physics and Particle Physics (Theory)
- Non-Linear Dynamics, Computational and Statistical Physics
- Quantum Information and technology (Theory)
Admission Categories
Application invited only for Fellowship Awardee.
- FA (Fellowship Awardee): Fellowship Awardees from the funding agencies such as CSIR, UGC, NBHM, DST etc. The scholarship will be as per the rules of the concerned funding agency.
Eligibility Criteria
- M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech. in Physics, Optoelectronics, Solid State Physics, Nanotechnology/Nano-sciences, Applied Physics or Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (with first division as defined by the awarding Institute/University), OR Four-year UG degree in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics
- Four-year UG degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, or Applied Physics; or candidates graduating in 2026 with the above-mentioned degrees; and
- A valid UGC-JRF / CSIR-JRF (in Physics/Mathematics), DST-Inspire, or equivalent fellowship.
Application Procedure
- Applicants have to apply ONLINE through official website of IIT Indore.
- The application fee should be paid through State Bank Collect only. This will generate a payment code number that will be required while filling out the online application form.
Shortlisted applicants will be intimated by email only. Early applicants may be intimated early.
Shortlisted candidates should arrange for at least two recommendation letters to be submitted in the prescribed format.
The interview process consists of two stages: shortlisted candidates must appear physically for a written test at IIT Indore, and those who qualify will appear for subsequent interviews. Candidates must make their own travel arrangements and may opt for hostel accommodation.
Candidates appearing for the interview will be asked to provide a handwritten Statement of Purpose describing their interest and motivation, relevant learning, research skills, and reasons for joining the Ph.D. program in Physics at IIT Indore.

Application Fee
- Indian Applicants: 100/- Indian Rupees (non-refundable) to be paid through online mode.
- International Applicants: US $30 (non-refundable) through SWIFT payment transfer mode.
