The Department of CSE, IIT Indore, invites applications from highly motivated and research-oriented students for admission to its PhD Program for the Academic Year 2025-2026 under FA Category.

Research Areas (but not limited to)
- Computer Networks: Networking, Network Security, 5G and beyond Networks, Wireless Sensor Networks, IoT.
- Software Engineering: Software Testing, Service-Oriented Systems.
- Machine Learning and Applications: ML Algorithms, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition
- Artificial Intelligence: Generative Al, Soft-computing, Computational Intelligence, Data Mining, Big Data, Reinforcement Learning.
- Hardware Security: Design of Cryptographic Accelerators, Side-Channel Analysis, Watermarking, Steganography, Obfuscation, Encryption and Logic Synthesis for Security.
- Algorithms: Theoretical Computer Science, Algebraic Graph Theory, Numerical Methods, Game Theory, Optimization, Algorithmic Graph Theory, Computational Complexity.
- Cyber-physical Systems: Embedded Systems, Formal Verification, RTOS/RTK, Certification framework for Safety Assurance in Autonomous Vehicles.
- Information Retrieval: Speech and Language Processing and Social Network Analysis, Network Science.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are Fellowship Awardees from the funding agencies such as CSIR, UGC, DST etc. are highly encouraged to apply under FA category. Such candidates should also upload the copy of the letter of the fellowship award in the supporting documents.
Minimum Educational Qualifications for FA category:
Masters’ degree (M.Tech./M.E. or M.S.) in CSE, IT, Electronics, and Electrical Engineering/ Technology (with first division in qualifying degree) AND UGC/CSIR-JRF qualification OR Equivalent Fellowship
OR
M.Sc. degree in Mathematics (with first division in qualifying degree) AND UGC/CSIR-JRF qualification OR Equivalent Fellowship.
The definition of first division in a qualifying degree, as per IIT Indore’s rules, is as follows:
For UR/EWS/OBC(NC) category
- A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate, OR
- A First class as specified by the university, OR
- A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) /Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on a scale of 0-10, OR
- An equivalent to 6.0 CGPA/ CPI on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10.
For SC/ST/PwD category
- A minimum of 55% marks in aggregate, OR
- A First class as specified by the university, OR
- A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)/Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 5.5 on a scale of 0-10, OR
- An equivalent to 5.5 CGPA/ CPI on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10.
Selection Process
- The written test and interview round for the PhD admission will be conducted on September 25, 2025, in the Department of CSE, IIT Indore. The interview process, if required, can also be held on September 25, 2025. The Candidates are required to attend the selection process in person, both a written test and an interview. No TA/DA shall be provided to participate in the selection process
- Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the written test and/or interview, and the same will be notified through email. No emails or communication, in any form, regarding shortlisted candidates, change of interview date, syllabus of written test and/or interview, etc. will be entertained.
- Mere fulfillment of the minimum eligibility criteria does not entitle anyone for admission into the PhD program in the Department of CSE.
Application Procedure
- Candidates must apply ONLINE through our website (http://academic.iiti.ac.in:8080/nregistration.jsp). This will generate a unique application number for each applicant.
- Applications along with supporting documents (10th marksheet, 12th marksheet, BTech degree mark sheets and certificate, GATE score card, Master’s degree marksheets and certificate, Caste Certificate, if applicable and all other relevant certificates in the mentioned order) must be to the email address admission-cse@iiti.ac.in before the above-mentioned date with the subject line, “Application for PhD Admission in Autumn Semester AY 2025-2026”.
- The supporting documents must be merged into a single PDF file before sending the email.
- Candidates must bring the PDF of the application form along with the scanned copies of the fee payment receipt, and self-attested copies of supporting documents (10th marksheet, 12th marksheet, BTech degree mark-sheets and certificate, GATE score card, Master’s degree marksheets and certificate, Caste Certificate, if applicable and all other relevant certificates) in the mentioned order at the time of selection process.
- There is no requirement of sending hard copies of the application form and supporting documents through POST or COURIER.
- SW category candidates must also submit NOC, experience certificate, last three months’ salary slips, and Employer’s PAN card along with above mentioned documents with their supporting documents of the application forms.
- Letters of recommendation (LoR) must be sent by referees to the email address admission-cse@jiti.ac.in with the subject line, “LoR for PhD Admission in Autumn Semester AY 2025-2026”. Template of LoR is available at https://academic.iiti.ac.in/phdadvt.php.
